Balcony - Ponta Delgada

My husband, daughter and I were in San Miguel for 2 days and stayed at Grand Hotel. We had dinner at Balcony and it was AMAZING! From the ambiance, cleanliness, friendly and attentive staff as well as the fantastic food! My husband had the Cataplana de cherne and I had the Peixe do mar dos Açores. The best fish we’ve had so far. Everything tasted so fresh. The presentation was beautiful! 100% recommended!

We randomly choose this restaurant for a birthday dinner and it has been an incredible experience. The location and the view are superb. Very good service and excellent food. And it is not much more expensive than other restaurants, expect to pay 25 euros for a great fish course.

Surprised by the lack of language abilities by the staff. Our waiters did not speak nor understood spanish or english. Led to some awkward moments. Never had that problem in other restaurants in Portugal even un ones more modest. Soup was ok. My octopus and bacalhau plate was also only ok. My wifes risotto was excellent.

I made reservations a month ahead of time for this restaurant which was not needed as the restaurant was half empty. It opens at 19:00 (7pm) and we were the first ones in line. We we sat and it took 3 hours in total from start/finish which is excessive. The service was so slow, literally every table got their food before we did. We ordered filets which were over cooked and had to send them back. No apologies, we mentioned to the manager that came around asking how things were how slow the service was and we were still waiting for our steaks to be cooked a 2nd time. The view and location is very nice, however it does not make up for the poor/slow service and the high prices. The filets came out the second time and were flavorless at that point it was almost 2 hours since we sat down so we just ate them. We ordered desert which tasted stale, very disappointing for sure. Everything took so long, the prices were very high compared to surrounding restaurants that are far better.

Extraordinaire high end staff, wine and dining level, view and sunset outstanding. Do not go to Zakynthos without enjoy life at its best way! Thank You for the loveliest all together high end evening bacause off Your loveliest staff, gourmet food n wine and atmosphere You create!
