We had the luck to be called within minutes to get our names in place. there were many waiting with big parties. we had a lamb and an salate dish that was enough to feed three or four. the service was good. we had to wait a long time because of the lamb.
This is a very simple and traditional restaurant. we ordered and said we had ordered too much to eat that half the portions would be enough. they were right. we had olives and weeping when we waited for our grilled salmon as the first cure and calf as the main roast. with a bottle of wine and a large bottle of water came the bill to an amazing value. there were many local people eating as well as a few perogrinos. TV shows with Portuguese football game . simple but great.
Someone recomended this restaurant, so that's why we went there. it was our first time in Ponte de Lima, and if I had passed by this place I would not have entered, it doesn't look too attractive on the outside, on the inside either. It's...clean and airy, big windows, large open kitchen and you can see them cooking, but there are no special decorations, plain wooden tables, plain walls covered in white paper table cloths. However, the dishes are big and delicious, traditional portuguese food. The waiter spoke english quite well, was quick and attentive and pleasant. As what the menu do dia' is, that is a fixed much for a fixed price for the day, including soup, main dish, drink and coffee. We had a menu do dia for euro including a glass of wine, cream soup, water (bottled water) and coffee. It is quite common in portugal to be offered a second helping of soup if they see you've finished one and you like it, and they offered that to us. We thought the extra serving of soup and glass of wine and water would be charged separately but they were all included in the which is an amazing price. The menu do dia on that day was veal chops with salad fries and rice. The meat was tender, really good, the fries were homemade, not greasy, good quality potatoes, and it was plenty to feel full after it. The other people around us were having lentils, fish, everything looked apetizing. Everyone eating here was portuguese, they seemed to be locals to eat there regularly. The restaurant is located centrally, on the main road, not far from the river, we asked around and people pointed us toward it. There are a lot of other restaurants in that area, some look much more attractive, especially in the summer when it's nice to sit outside. This restaurant doesn't have that option. The rother restaurants have nice chairs, a rustic athmospehere, what you imagine portugal to be, colorful table cloths, potted flowers...and I'm sure the food is great in those restaurants as well. However, I'm really happy we chose this restaurant, the meal was great, we were not treated like tourists, we were served exactly the same as the locals (some restaurants target tourists and serve smaller meals at a more expensive price to foreign tourists) and we felt like one of the locals. We were with a year old child, and they had a high chair (a strange one though, one attached to the table, but it worked perfectly fine). The restaurant was full, upstairs as well, and they seemed used to dealing with children. We'll eat there again.
