I will start with the positives; our suite was exceptionally comfortable and well appointed. It was the perfect combination of elegance and relaxed comfort, with every detail attended to. It was extremely spacious, and well furnished. The French doors were tinted for privacy just to the right height. The freestanding tub in the living space was delightful, and actually usable. The oversize shower was wonderful, with strong water pressure and instant hot water. The restaurant and bar downstairs are warm and inviting, although we did not have a chance to dine there. The property is very understated from the outside, and located in a charming neighborhood near the tourist-friendly Poole Quay. (Pronounced “Key” for the Americans) The one downside, was the two receptionists who seemed perturbed that the guests checking in were disturbing them from whatever was on their computer screens at the time. They were especially perturbed when I asked about the corporate rate I had been instructed to use, and which I had indicated in my online reservation notes. They implied I was trying to pull a “scam” of some sort, which I felt was an inappropriate reaction. I didn’t push the issue…. Clearly the proprietors spend tremendous effort and expense to make this property delightful for guests, I think they would want the reception staff to rise to the same level. The rest of the staff from housekeeping to restaurant was excellent, and I don’t think a chilly reception should sway people from staying at this delightful property.
The hotel staff are warm, friendly and helpful. A lovely menu. Food is beautifully cooked. I had a fabulous Californian red wine. The Eggs Benedict are probably the best I've had in a long while. My bed was very comfortable. The shower was hot in seconds. Everything was very pleasant and I'd happily go to a Hotel du Vin again.
Great hotel. Fabulous bar and restaurant. Beautiful area, Old Poole and the Quay side a short walk. Good size rooms, fantastic bed and linen. All staff first class. Will definitely return.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Our room was not a nice as we had hoped. We had one problem which we were given a partial refund. Parking is restricted but we would return as the overall experience was pleasant.
My partner and I dined at the restaurant earlier this month to celebrate a special birthday. The restaurant was very quiet, and unfortunately, our starters were lacking in flavor. We ordered the chateaubriand with fries, specifying that we did not want it to be pink like the last time. The waitress was understanding and noted our request on the order. However, when the dish arrived, it appeared barely cooked. We sent it back, and when it came back out, it was slightly better but the fries were cold. At that point, we decided to decline any further dishes, finished our wine, and left. The waitress was very apologetic and her service was exceptional. I reached out to the manager about our experience, but have not received a response. We used to frequent Du Vin for special occasions, but this was the third disappointing meal in a row. Although we have enjoyed stays at several other Du Vin hotels across the country, the recent experience with the food at this location was lacking.
