The Thursday night special includes steak or mussels with a bottle of wine for a reasonable price. We decided to try the mussels and they did not disappoint! The staff, especially our waiter Harrison, was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The Blue Boar is now under new management and I highly recommend trying it out. We are local residents and will definitely be returning.
My friends and I visited the Pub for lunch and were very impressed with the service and food. So, we decided to book the Blue Boar for a bar lunch to celebrate after our wedding at the Register Office. James, Gareth, and the rest of the team provided us with a wonderful experience. They helped us choose a delicious menu, from nibbles to starters, mains, and desserts. The service on the day was fantastic. We were beyond pleased with everything and truly had a lovely experience. The Pub is definitely a hidden gem in Poole, and everyone has been pleasantly surprised by it.
Upon arriving at the restaurant, we immediately sensed that it was a special place. It was well worth venturing away from the main quay area. The recently refurbished building had a lovely interior, with leather armchairs and sofas in the main bar creating a cosy atmosphere around a huge fireplace. The manager shared some of the restaurant's history and their journey to reopening, ensuring we were well taken care of. Despite the cocktail menu officially starting next week, he graciously made us a couple of cocktails. We enjoyed a delightful half hour in the bar before moving downstairs to the Wine Merchants Cellar for a delicious cheese platter and wine. The cellar, with its low vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork, was beautifully designed. Lola provided us with exceptional service, ensuring our experience was unforgettable. She went above and beyond to accommodate our preferences, engage in conversation, and provide helpful recommendations. Throughout the evening, she remained attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning to this hidden gem in the future.
Met by two lovely bar staff Lola and Ella. These two girls ran the bar and food on a busy August Saturday evening. Always smiling and happy to chat . They showed us menus even though we weren’t eating, suggested we look at the new...seller offerings and were happy to recommend Nothing was too much trouble for them. This was a great bar in its Marine days and I can see it coming back with the food offerings and helpful staff. Defo worth a visit and hats off to Lola and Ella.
Visited on and there were seven of us and a dog. The man who served us was very welcoming and attentive and helpfully informed us that the kitchen was busy with mains on our neighbouring table and that we would be served next. It's...not often that you get honesty like this in hospitality and I appreciate being told that we'll have to wait longer than usual and why. We had all mains tasty pub grub as expected. Unfortunately one meal was burnt, a chicken burger and blackened bun. However this was promptly redone and then taken off the bill. Apologies were made by our server but the kitchen was at fault there (it should never have made it to the table). Toilets are in desperate need of renovation. Not uncommon with old buildings but these were dire. Five stars for service and mistakes were rectified without a fuss.
