Dairy Queen Grill Chill - Port Alberni

Located in a unique area of Port Alberni, this restaurant offers excellent food. While the prices for blizzards may be a bit on the higher side, the quality of the food makes it worthwhile.

Later that same day, my extra son (a child who stays with us on the weekends) was at the store with his social worker. At first, the staff refused to serve them for reasons that were not explained. After some back-and-forth with "the manager," they finally agreed to take their order, but again, no explanations were given. Also, I have yet to see a single burger being grilled in the restaurant—only microwaved burgers are being served. Overall, I'm not impressed at all.

The place is quite worn down, but the staff is really friendly. Unfortunately, both the root beer and Pepsi from the fountain were out of syrup.

I was quite confused by this location, as it doesn't appear to offer franchise deals like other Dairy Queens throughout Vancouver Island and BC. It was odd when I ordered a banana strawberry smoothie at the drive-thru and was told they don’t carry smoothies. Every other DQ I've visited on Vancouver Island sells fruit smoothies. I'm wondering if this is just a franchise item not available here or if the staff are simply unaware of their own menu. I think I’ll skip this location in the future when I'm in the mood for DQ while in Port Alberni.

Kid-friendliness: The kids were happily climbing around after indulging in their frozen treats, and there were no complaints or awkward stares from anyone. We left promptly once everyone had finished so we could head to a nearby beach to burn off some energy! Parking: I'm not sure how many spots there are, but it's conveniently located near the entrance. Wheelchair accessibility: Yes!
