There was ample food and we even took some home.
Typical Australian indian restaurant but not a patch on English indian restaurants premises were clean and inviting. staff were efficient but have not had sufficient experience or knowledge of real indian food
Although they delivered the meal, they did not deliver in taste. The dishes were way too mild; lacking Indian flavours. Loads of sauce in the dishes, but little else. Too rich and it looked like there was food colouring in some of the food. Overpriced and under delivered!
As an occasional visitor to Port Elliot I have often passed this Indian restaurant but never got round to giving it a go.I rectified that omission on a recent visit. Based on my experience I have added it to my list of places I would happily go back to when in the area.I enjoyed my meal. The onion bhaji starter was excellent. In many Indian restaurants this dish turns up big and stodgy, but this was delicate and tasty with just the right ratio of coating to the filling of thin strands of shredded onion. The Kashmiri lamb main was also nicely prepared and you could clearly taste the cardamon and chilli sauce which was well balanced. There was some attention to detail. The plates were delivered to the table pre warmed and the service in general was pleasant and friendly. The kingfisher beer was fresh and a good temperature. If you pick carefully you can find a palatable wine in the short list of wines by the glass. There is the usual bigger list if you're up for a bottle. As with most otherwise good places, there's always room for a constructive comment. If you can agree on your choices, two of you could share a main and a vegetable dish, particularly if you have a starter, unless you have really big appetites, but if you are a lone diner and your main does not have vegetables, it would be nice to have vegetables available as sides and priced accordingly, whereas at the moment you would have to order a vegetarian main as well to get your fix. Apart from being too much to eat, it would also make your meal a bit on the expensive side. There is also take away if you don't want to eat in, and there was a passing parade of people going for this option. The restaurant itself was reasonably well patronised.I would definitely recommend Mr India if you're looking for a good quality Indian meal.
We recently ordered 'take-away' from here and whilst the food was delivered promptly and smelt good the food itself we found not to our liking. We like curries and eat them often but one dish was very dry, some pieces of chicken in another dish was not fully cooked and the flavours of the other dishes were either not pleasant tasting or bland. All in all a disaster and would not try this place a second time.
