L'after - Port-en-Bessin-Huppain

Took my group of 14 people here after booking some weeks in advance. Friendly place with great food and drinks, and all at sensible prices. Tucked away around a corner so no harbour views, but still recommended as such good value and service.

Take sunglasses as the decor is a bit loud. As the review ratings were above average compared to other restaurants in the town we decided to give it a try. May be it was because we had just missed the 7:30 deadline for the set menu that the restaurant was empty but it should have been an omen really. There was one couple in before us so very little atmosphere and the heavy blues music (of which I'm usually a fan) made the whole meal a completely lack lustre experience. I also noticed the waitress divvy up a bottle of coke between two glasses and make up the lack of volume (the menu stated 33cl) with ice. Not the greatest crime in the world but just summed up a bit of a desparate feel to the place. The mussels we had were ok but not a patch on those that we had eaten through out the holiday elsewhere. At best, disappointing (and not cheap). Being our first meal in the town we assumed that all the eateries were tourist traps thankfully the next meal was at Le Bistrot d'a Cote around the corner. L'After could learn a great deal from making a visit to their local competitor and just prevent themselves from going bust.

Do not be put off by the exterior, once inside we were made very welcome by a waiter who spoke good English. He took the time to explain each menu so that we knew exactly what we were getting. Food soon arrived and was very tasty, clean lates went back to the kitchen.

1 Andoile because it was the only restaurant or there was room, but we understand why when you went out. On the evening of the disaster, the mussels were of a weird, white smell and dry and cold frozen fries. We complained and then we heard that 1 or 2 tables around us complained. The chief's escus or won't do anything. Our neighbors are 5 euros discount. To escape

To escape absolutely! A restaurant found a little by chance, but I strongly advise. We booked 9:15 for eight people. When we arrived (15 minutes late, we were greeted very coldly by a waitress who no longer remembers a reservation for eight people (even if a table of 8 was already served...). During the whole meal, the same waitress never took a smile or even a word. The service was clearly desired: we had the bath 5 minutes before the fries that accompanied it, and the dishes were not served at the same time. Warm and friendly. When we dared to ask for the scalotte that was missing from the "shovel to the shovel", the waitress started saying that it was a simple ****, while there was almost no more... before taking our plates and serving them in a mediocre canteen. Finally, after a correct but probably frozen Norman pie, we allowed ourselves to report to the waitress our surprise in the face of her lack of politeness, this one told us that it was due to our quarter of an hour late, to the receptionist of the hotel who would not have to accept our reservation. And we're still waiting for apology. In short, a passage worthy of the worst restaurants, whether you want to spend a good evening, especially that other restaurants are nearby immediately, and directly on the port.
