We ordered the house-baked bread ($7.00) and it was beautiful, as also the accompanying delightful trio of dips - Hummus, Beetroot and Pesto. For our main, we ordered the 250g Scotch Fillet ($29.50), one medium-well and the other well-done, and specifically requested our uncomprehending waiter that we'd like them "butterflied". Big mistake! Both fillets came out well done and tough to cut and even tougher to chew, but I suppose that is why they're so much cheaper than eye fillet. However the asparagus and "boulengere" (sic) potatoes more than made up for it. And washed down with a choice De Bortoli Semillon Sauvignon Blanc ($30.00). Their "meal deal" was two main courses and a bottle of house wine for a remarkable $50.00 but I'm sorry to say that we'd much rather have paid full price for a main that met our expectations.
The food was excellent, although I thought the selection was a bit light on. I think the menu was a bit 'yuppy' with the trendy vegies and sauces.
We went to a group function last night, 100+ guests, the catering was superb, the atmosphere was great. There were pre-dinner drinks at the bar outside the restaurant. The meeting progressed well. There was a timetable and the catering and wait staff delivered on time and brought out some great food. I had an entree (supplied only to large group gatherings: Slow Braised Lamb Shoulder - outstanding. My wife had the Smoked Chicken Breast; both dishes were well presented. The mains were Crispy Skin Pork or Seared Tasmanian Salmon - really great. A tray of fudge was brought out as a finale - 2 or 3 pieces per person - yummo! The wines on the table were enjoyable.
Beautiful spot right on the Hastings River. The staff are very helpful and courteous and the meals delicious. There's a pool also if you're up for a swim.
Wait staff where friendly, food left much to be desired. The 400 gram rump was more like 200, cooked to perfection if you like well done not medium to rare as ordered. Rest of all meals served similar quality, poor. Not the only complaining table in the restaurant. I feel for the wait staff having to serve such poor quality food and cop the negative comments. These are my husbands comments. He was not happy.
