River Haven - Port Royal

Stopped around 1:15 pm on May 28, 2016 expecting to get lunch after driving from North Carolina. After my party of two was seated, two other parties came in (a husband and wife and a group of four). My friend and I waited about 15 minutes for a waiter. While we sat there, the two other parties who arrived after us, we're served water, had placed their orders, and appeared to be enjoying themselves before my friend and I were given any further attention. I should mention that my friend and I are African American, all other customers were White. Needless to say I did not spend my money where my business is not appreciated.

Terrible Restaurant. We were excited about finding this little place on the river just before sunset, but shortly after we were seated a very loud argument started in the kitchen. When our waitress finally arrived to take our drink order it was obvious she had been crying and she apologized for the vulgar language still coming from the kitchen. Well our shrimp was absolutely terrible, and the vegetables looked like they were left over from the previous day. The food was literally inedible, so I complained and ask to talk to a manager. The individual that came to our table reeked of marijuana and immediately showed zero concern about my complaint. He did not even allow me to explain why I ask to speak to him before stating What do you want a free dinner . When I told him the food was terrible he made a bigoted comment stating, 'Do you want me to put it in a taco? ' At that point I told him he was obviously drunk and under the influence of illegal drugs and that I wanted to speak to another manager. He said he was Dave Hanlon the owner of River Haven and that I had no idea what I was f..ing talking about. At that point we left the restaurant and will never ever return.

Nastiest restaurant I have ever walked into. When we arrived there was a smell of marijuana in the parking lot and my friend noticed that it was 'Dave Hanlon ' smoking a joint with one of his cooks outside the restaurants kitchen door. We had to comment on this juvenile behavior to our waitress and she exclaimed that everyday was the same. Dave arrives to the restaurant hung over and remains sort of quiet until he gets his marijuana buzz on, then with drug induced bravery he stomps around the restaurant yelling at his employees like a spoiled child for a couple hours. After that he starts drinking like a sailor on leave and becomes the crying drunk that everyone hates. She kept he voice down and said Dave fires anyone that criticizes his childish behavior or stands up to his vulgar outbursts. She said turnover was real high and that she could not wait to get another job. Worst Restaurant in Virginia. Owner has no clue how to deal with people or serve the public. Port Royal will be a much better place when Dave Hanlon has moved on.

Nasty! Everything was horrible. The waitress was rude, the owner is an idiot, and the food was nasty. We ordered shrimp and they were soured. Owner said he just got them at Food Lion a couple days ago so they couldn't be ruined yet. When I ask him to try the shrimp he refused and said he could give us a $5 discount. I told him he was crazy and left. Worst restaurant experience ever.

I recently had dinner at Riverhaven. The riverview and wildlife was amazing to look at. The food was very appetizing. The lobster wontons were to die for. I had the crabmelt with fries. Awesome!! The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. I will definitely go back. The prices were fair and the food was fresh and satisfying.
