My wife and I have had lunch here a number of times, including with friends the food has always been good, sometimes excellent large portions (a single dose quite easily feeds 2 , served quickly, efficiently, with a smile, and at an excellent price. On a nice day you can eat outside, or just take a coffee and a cake while you watch the world pass by, For lunch, certainly one of the best places in Portalegre.

Avó Marmelo is a classic choice for locals on the "frango assado"s topic. Their main dish is the roasted/grilled chicken and they do it in a fantastic way. The french fries are also excellent here. It is unfair to speak only about the chicken since they have several other options but honestly I'm visiting only because of this simple Portuguese mean. This is my favorite chicken in Portalegre.
