Cattle Baron Restaurants. - Portales

Dinner tonight makes me solidly want to give a half star (as in 4 and a half stars).

I've heard mixed reviews about Cattle Baron, but I finally gave it a try on my visit back to Portales with a group of friends.

Their prices are ridiculousI could buy a steak from walmart for half the price, season it better, and probably cook it better.

I had a 16oz prime rib that quite honestly wasn?t fit to eat. The baked sweet potato was ok, but not worth the cost. The appetizer was served after the meal. The best part of the whole experience was the green chili corn chowder. I would considereating here again, but only for that singular item. This is typical for New Mexico, but I definitely wouldn?t recommend anyoneto eat here.

Great service and good food. It was a busy Saturday evening. Hostess and waitress were both training new employees. Everything ran great considering the trainees were just following their trainer. Everyone was very friendly. After our meal a woman whom Iassumed was a manager came by our table to see if our meal was ok and to see if we needed anything else. She even stood thereand made conversation with the kiddos. That's what management is all about. Great customer service. I was very pleased.
