The Rock Inn - Porthcawl

We visited this nice pub for the open mic night. The performance area was quite small and had limited seating, which made it a bit cramped. It would have been great if they had hosted the event in the larger back room, where there are plenty of tables and chairs. That way, people could enjoy drinks at the bar and those outside could still see the performers. Overall, there was a wonderful atmosphere, and the bar staff were excellent. Service: 5

Upon our arrival, the staff warmly greeted us and promptly escorted us to our seats. They were friendly and attentive—thank you! We were presented with menus and given just the right amount of time to peruse our options before a cheerful server came to take our orders. I chose the crab for my starter and the lamb for my main course, and I can confidently say it was an incredible experience. The starters arrived, featuring a golden, crispy coating enveloping soft, delicate crab meat. It was the perfect portion for a starter, enough to whet your appetite as you anticipate the main course. For my main, I opted for the lamb, which was juicy and succulent with a delightful bite that I adore! It was tender without being chewy, providing just the right texture to remind you you’re eating meat. The lamb was accompanied by a large, homemade Yorkshire pudding that was both crispy and fluffy, alongside golden roast potatoes and flavorful roasted carrots and parsnips. The gravy was something unique—very pale and almost hard to see on the food, yet packed with richness and depth. I typically prefer a dark, thick gravy, but this one exceeded my expectations. You could genuinely sense the love and care that went into preparing the meal. Overall, I’d give five stars across the board—just make sure to reserve your table in advance! Bravo!
