Be sure to try their professor sandwich (even though it's not listed on the menu). On Thursdays at lunch, they serve a delicious bi-bim-bap that you definitely shouldn't miss!
In no particular order, the places I believe serve excellent espresso are: - Spella Caffe, 520 SW 5th Avenue - Caffe Umbria (three locations in downtown Portland) - Piccone's Corner, Butchery and Restaurant, 3434 NE Sandy Blvd (everything here tastes like it comes straight from Italy) - Sunny's Espresso and Gifts, 1900 SW 4th Ave Spella, Umbria, and Piccone's are all founded and owned by Italians, while Sunny's only connects to Italy through the coffee they brew. I'll leave it to you to ask the owner of Sunny's—whose name I don't know if it's Sunny—why his shop made it onto my list. If Sunny's were located in Italy, it would blend in perfectly, as no Italian would find anything wrong with their espresso or distinguish it from what they’ve had at home. This review speaks to my overall thoughts on espresso in Portland and the pride many locals have regarding the city's coffee culture. I don’t claim to have tried every espresso in Portland, but I have certainly sampled it in far more places than just four.
Friendly service, great food, and awesome coffee. Really fast professional service. Every wensday Korean spicy pork is to die for.
Good selection of fresh made breakfast sandwiches and a friendly owner who cares about your satisfaction and good start to your day... Even when you change your mind and want ice coffee instead of cold coffee, he takes too much pride to let you just pour your coffee over ice. ?
