The Fishwife - Portland

This place needs a new direction. Feel like it could be a stellar gem / hole in the wall type space. A real cook? As of Massachusetts, it's easy for me to identify fresh seafood. That's not that. The shrimps were clearly frozen. The Tuna Special, although not by how advertised, was not bright pink. Highly recommend to skip Fishwife until they rent a real cook.

In my home town of Windsor, Ontario we had some really great old time, English style fish and chip places. With vinyl and chrome kitchen chairs and Formica table tops, it was like a meeting at your aunting site in Halifax (East Coast) for a family visit. The Fishwife has restored this feeling and comes completely with FANTASTIC tasting seafood. I know good cod and that was GREAT cod. My mother-in-law lived on Chesapeake Bay for a good time, and she was really impressed by the Seafood Combo she had. The waiting staff is super friendly and the prices are reasonable. Now they just have to add a dinner roll to the basket meals, and either the creamy Coleslaw sweet or preferred get a good Eastern style vinegary type Slav. That's the 5th. Worth star!

Absolutely fantastic seafood! I highly recommend visiting this place. We started with calamari, which was delicious, and then I had the cioppino while my husband enjoyed the seafood fettuccine. Everything was amazing, and the seafood was cooked to perfection. I’m still savoring the flavors even though I’m completely full!

Being here brought me back to my childhood, incredible service and family-friendly atmosphere. Make sure at least one cup of Clam Chowder with everything you order so rich and creamy, but relatively light, amazing. My margarita was generous and came in a pint glass; lovely. Left feeling full and happy; can?t wait to come back!

This restaurant is seriously overpriced, especially considering the quality of the food. Coming from New York, I know what good food costs, and this place falls far short. The Fishwife feels run-down and the service is incredibly slow—the food took forever to arrive! When it finally did, it was bland and mushy. The shrimp were chewy, and the chowder was just a coagulated disaster. The drinks were overly sweet and watery. The only positive aspect was the polite waitstaff. I would recommend steering clear of this place!
