We chose the bistro menu and were extremely satisfied. The steak I had was one of the best I've ever had in Sydney. The wine list is diverse, featuring many local and French options. The service was friendly and attentive.
Unbelievable food and a great sommelier who provided perfect matching wines with flexibility to suit out party of 4. We had the degustation which was great value. The cheese course a bit disappointing and our meal stalled at the main course for longer than expected without explanation but otherwise extremely well done. The venue location is iconic but generally the decor lets down the high standard of the food. The name, website and graphics don't do justice to the place either in my view...still, I highly reccomend it.
Read a review in qantas magazine on flight to Sydney and went to the ortolan that night. It was superb - great service, attentive and caring - was on my own and the waitress offered to sit with me if it made me more comfortable! Chose prix fixe menu and had ceviche of white fish with crab, scallop tartare and turnip. The chef came out to chat with me and offered me fresh truffles from Tasmania to try. The dish was delicate, sophisticated, picture pretty - pea jelly and tiny pansies - very clean tasting and most importantly something I couldn't make myself. Followed this with a spiced soufflé with almond milk ice cream and black figs - takes 25 mins to prepare - rich and yummy - figs sweet/savory combination? great combination for ladies, maybe men would go for the mains. can't wait for the next trip to Sydney!
Are you a fan of traditional French cuisine with a modern twist? Then look no further than this restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, but be prepared for a long dining experience. The service was attentive, but the pacing of the meal was slow. Overall, a unique dining experience for those with time to spare.
I must say I agree with the review I read earlier.
