The food here is top notch and the outside area is wonderful. But, on three occasions we have called to do take out (not always on a holiday) and have been turned away saying no take out tonight. There’s basically no takeout ever unless it’s “off peak” hours and they aren’t busy at all. Super disappointing especially when we have super young children who have difficulty sitting still in a nice restaurant, and we still want to enjoy the food. Won’t be back again.
Great service and lovely atmosphere but WAY overpriced for basic pasta $17 for penne with red sauce?!? My teenager can cook this dish). The sauces didn't taste homemade. I'd go back but with lower expectations.
Tonight was my second time at this location. The food is good, but my sister who is a frequent patron of their Kingston location for several years, noticed the portions are now considerably smaller than they used to be, with the prices getting higher. We understand inflation, but pasta is one of the cheapest items to prepare, I know because I used to work for one of the largest purveyors in the tri-state area! My problem tonight was the arrogant and off-handed attitude of our waiter, Jerry. From the moment we sat down, it felt like he thought he was doing us a great favor to wait on us, he seemed preoccupied even just taking our drink orders. I asked for seltzer with lemon, my sister asked for seltzer with lime. He seemed distracted and it felt like he barely listened. Sure enough, mine came with lime also. It took a few minutes to catch his attention to say I'd asked for lemon, he seemed irritated I asked for the lemon, replied it would take a few minutes, which it did. We placed our orders, the food was good, but my sister's order of pasta was very small. My niece and I finished before my sister. The waiter and a busboy started clearing our dishes and even started to take my sister's bread plate and knife, which she was still using to cut her pasta. When she said she was still using it, he seemed perturbed to have to put the plate back. She asked for the knife, which he just mixed up with the other plates and silverware he was holding. At that point, she said never mind. Truthfully, we felt nothing should have been cleared until we were all finished. It felt rude and rushed to have things cleared while someone was still eating. When he came back to clear her items, he asked how it was. She said she felt the portions had gotten very small. He just shrugged his shoulders and said he'd tell the chef. Also at no time did he ask if we'd like refills on drinks until after the table had been cleared. Both times I've been here I had Jerry wait on my table. I truly feel he has an air of superiority and arrogance, not very commendable traits for someone in the food service field in my opinion. Although the food at Savona's is fairly good, I don't think I'd go back again due to my experiences with the service. And one other thought, the noise level is unbearable. I know the location is an older, historical building. But they should think of doing something about the noise level so people dining together can hear each other across their table. Perhaps then people would not have to shout to their fellow diners to be heard!
