Sometimes she doesn't feel like cooking our favorite Filipino dishes, and I don't blame her because it's a labor of love. We live in Mira Mesa but happened to be at the Poway Costco and decided to give this place a try. The restaurant is new and constantly evolving, with plenty of seating for dine-in customers. You order at the counter and most dishes are made to order. We tried the lechon kawali with rice and binagoongan. The kawali could have been chopped into smaller pieces for easier eating, in my opinion. My mom thought the binagoongan was good but a bit too wet, which affected the crispiness of the pork. However, we absolutely loved the Laotian version of longanisa they offer. It's a bit pricey for an 8-pack, but the sweet flavor is outstanding. My mom said it reminded her of her childhood in the Philippines and the authentic longanisa they used to make. That alone convinced me to buy her more packs. Despite being located in deep Poway, the restaurant exceeded our expectations with hearty portions and delicious food. Overall, we were pleased with our experience.
I was kind of confused when I walked in, because the inside looked nothing like what it does in their yelp photos. I wasn't sure I was in the right place. There wasn't a menu anywhere and I wasn't even sure if they were serving food. I did see the dessert display. I ordered the mais con hielo and halo halo. I don't think I would come back for it... the ice texture was more like crushed ice rather than shaved ice. Majority of the cup was filled with milk and ice rather than all the good stuff. It's also an small Asian market, which is convenient for buying Asian groceries if you don't want to drive all the way to Mira Mesa or Kearny Mesa. The Market is what gives it the third star, but if I was basing this just on halo halo, it would get 1-2 stars.
The food is really good you guys should try the palabok and their ice creams'. I recommend their halo halo a lot, the ice cream is really good and it making the halo extra creamy but not too sweet
Great Filipino Food and Great Service! The Food is fresh off the pan, freshly cooked everytime, generous servings!!! Lots of other Filipino good stuff !!!
