The couple at the next table ordered club sandwich and fish n chips. They looked really good. I ordered a mixed green apple chicken salad, but there was only ice burg lettuce with a few other types of lettuce leaves. It did have the pecans, blue cheese, and very small amount of chicken breast as they promised on the menu, so maybe they ran out of mixed greens? I didn't order the Cesar salad because I didn't want to just have romaine lettuce, but I got ice burg instead! How exciting : for $14.95 you would think they can make a better effort. My husband ordered broiled cod lunch, and when it was brought over we couldn't believe our eyes. There were literally two bites of fish on the plate, with a side of fries. It was probably 1oz of fish at most for $13.95, and better yet, when we received our bill, it was $17.95! I asked the waitress and she said my husband had a tossed salad which hey charge $2 extra. I said then it should be $15.95. She didn't know but she adjusted the bill for us. The waitress was very nice but there were definitely some quality control issues in the kitchen there. If I ever get stuck in the area again I would just order a bowl of soup. Whoever is in charge of the menu and pricing is dropping tje
Very nice place and the view is fantastic. The service is very good. The Bartender is Amazing .
This restaurant has a great location overlooking the marina at Presque Isle Harbor, Lake Huron. It 's the only restaurant in the area so it 's usually busy, especially around the summer holidays. After a relaxing day on the lake and we don 't feel like cooking or driving far to a restaurant, this is our go to spot for dinner. The food is usually solid, not breaking any culinary boundaries, but solid. Whitefish is always a safe bet and occasionally they might have an interesting special. Sides are typical (soup or salad, baked potato, rice, etc. Non seafood eaters might find the selection limited and uninspired. The service is usually good although sometimes we 've had the 'home from college, summer job ' waitresses that are in the 'learning curve ' phase. There is one amazing regular waiter that we love RAY! He always makes the experience perfect and sometimes I think we come to the restaurant just to see him : They should clone him! If this restaurant were not the only restaurant in the area, I don 't know if I would ever visit. It 's more of a 'tradition ' to visit the Portage than an 'OMG, I cannot wait to go to the Portage ' thing. That being said, I will definitely be there again.... next year when I 'm on vacation at the lake :
Food was very good. Service was not spectacular (but the place was very busy on a Friday nite). It's a beautiful setting w two ice cream shops to choose from after dinner.
Very nice atmosphere with quality food. Dress up or casual either will fit. I liked the whitefish and I don't like fish.
