Instead...from helping service and actually trying to maintain a minimum cleaning standard, manager also went and from the bar to the office to leave the employees to treat with a very busy and very chaotic pub. I don't know what's going on, but the standards have gone into the müll in wetherspoons, and that was probably the worst experience I had in one. the food was very average and tasted as if it was burned from/short freeze cabinet. chips tasteless and the best was the wobble rings. my glass had a milk like substance on the floor, so I drink of it. the staff that served had long haares and did not make any effort to keep this to eat very close to the guests when served. I had to ask my table to be wiped when we arrived, as no one was clean when the guests went. if a health inspector came in today, I would have suspected that they had been marked for cleanliness and hygiene. I will not try to return to wetherspoons in the regular way, as the standards are so slipped that no more recent experience was positiw.
I waited for about 15 minutes to get a table for my daughter's birthday, and then spent another 10 minutes at the bar only to be told that they were closing upstairs in 5 minutes. I asked if we could still eat at the bar but the customer service was unhelpful and terrible.
We ordered the sirloin steak, but found it to have more fat than actual meat. My wife ordered the pasta alfredo, which we thought was mediocre. Unfortunately, our son's pizza was not very good either. To top it off, all of our food was served on cold plates.
I must say that Leyland Lion is a nice pub. The floor staff, though young, could use some training. Our food was ready but the employees passed by our table multiple times without bringing it to us. When we had to finally ask, there was no reaction or interaction. Courtesy is important in the pub industry. I don't blame the young girl running the floor when even the service manager walked by without clearing tables. It's a shame.
