Once we got to our room, I was pleased to find it quite nice, featuring a beautiful view of the sea. It was generally clean and comfortable, tastefully furnished with updated amenities. The bathrooms were a bit outdated, but the property had a lot of character, being quirky and unique—much like Provincetown itself. However, the hotel could definitely use better maintenance, as there were items scattered everywhere, hinting at storage issues. I think they either need to improve their management or adjust their prices accordingly. Ultimately, this hotel is a boutique establishment with great potential, but it feels more like a hostel or a budget accommodation at times. It could be a challenge related to staffing post-COVID, but I still consider the price I paid a good value. I enjoyed my stay overall, loved the location, and for the price, I would consider returning!
I had an excellent experience at The Waterford Inn! The rooms were spotless and extremely comfortable, the breakfast was delightful, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. This was my first visit to Provincetown, and the location of The Waterford Inn couldn't have been better for exploring the area on foot. I highly recommend it!
Despite its good intentions, the Waterford Inn operates more like an overpriced, poorly renovated bed and breakfast, charging the same rates as a luxury hotel on the Côte d'Azur, which is definitely not a budget destination. The outdated doors, cabinets, and floorboards have merely been painted over instead of properly renovated. For instance, the bathroom door lacks a proper latch and feels reminiscent of my grandmother's chicken coop. This character might be charming in another context, but not for USD 428.00. Additionally, there is a missing plug and shelf on one side of the bed. The cramped bathroom lacks even a glass for toothbrushes. After the Covid pandemic, they took the opportunity to stop making the beds and cleaning the rooms under the guise of worker welfare. However, the truth seems to be that they are trying to cut costs, lacking any compensation for guests due to this reduced service level. Furthermore, the refrigerator was left dirty and went uncleaned, which is simply unacceptable. We booked a room with a balcony and sea view, but, unfortunately, the balcony is unusable due to the restaurant's ventilation system located right next to it. The noise and smell are unbearable, starting as early as 7:00 AM and lasting until late at night. Even with closed windows, the noise penetrates, making it impossible to enjoy the space. This room should come with a clear warning about its drawbacks. I'm not familiar with American laws, but we inquired about switching rooms. While it was theoretically possible, it would have required moving twice, which felt like too much hassle for us. Breakfast is an ordeal as guests must pick it up from the Mexican restaurant, which offers just one dish and coffee included. I'm not against Mexican food, but I certainly don't prefer it for breakfast—I would much rather have simple bread, butter, and jam. Moreover, the breakfast is served in plastic and aluminum, which I, as a European, found shockingly low in style. This approach also generates a significant amount of waste, which is far from sustainable. After we voiced our concerns, we were allowed to choose something from a selection of rolls, cakes, and croissants. We insisted on having our coffee served in real cups instead of plastic or cardboard. Voila, that became our breakfast. Someone in charge, perhaps James, should take a good look at the breakfast offerings suitable for a USD 430 room in Europe. On a positive note, the beds were quite comfortable, and the coffee—albeit just one cup—was very good. I also loved the cinnamon roll, but it hardly seemed reasonable considering the price.
This place did not meet my expectations at all. Too expensive. I found James the owner? rather inappropriate. There was no real greeting, interest in our stay or offer, what to do during the visit. The rooms are not during your stay, as a Kovid measure, but I think this is just an excuse. If you have room #9 or #10, you can't let your window open or use the balcony, as fans from the restaurant kitchen are loud and terrible stinking. Breakfast is advertised as a continental breakfast on their website and booking sports, but you can only select ONE items from their Mexican dishes, served in paper cups and foil/plastic with plastic fork, just disgusting for USD400. one night. Where is your sustainability? Only after we complained, we were offered ONE croissant instead of some tacos or burrito. Shower and toilet are from the 80s. No cup or glass for the toothbrush, not enough space to store your toiletries. It seems that the owner uses a lot of color to hide the shortcomings. After I have said all these negative points, I would also like to mention the positive points: comfortable bed, big coffee, excellent location.
We have stayed in several times over the past 10 years, had almost concluded this would be our inn as re visit P Town about every other year. Our 2021 visit however proved very unsatisfying the manager particularly seemed disturbed that we asked for services of any type (carrying luggage up three flights of stairs we are in our seventies) or asking that the in room refrigerator noise be fixed. Our room, with a tiny balcony seemed a good idea but actually overlooked the restaurant fan and courtyard dining area, The room itself was spacious and clean, it was the service that just turned us off from future stays.
