El Mexsal - Provo

The food here is great! I had a beef tostada and pork enchilada and my wife had a beef burrito (see pictures). They both tasted great! Some of the best Mexican food I have had. However, I give only three stars because it took a long time to get food and we never had a waiter/waitress come by. No refills or even to just ask how we were doing.

Never had pposas before today, but they are amazing! Carne Asada Tacos are the best I had. The beef saucers are large and delicious. My wife had three enchiladas. Beef, pig and cheese. She loved her (and she is a picky esser). Rice and beans are authentic. Service was promo and friendly. An excellent place to eat!!

Don't let the location scare you. Thanks to a recommendation from a reviewer here on Urbanspoon, I tried the pupusas. I only wish I would have ordered more. You'll definitely want to add them to your order. Very friendly waitstaff, although a little slow. Great food, and you can't beat the $5.50 lunch specials that come with a drink. The location in a south Provo strip mall might scare away a few, but the restaurant itself was very clean, and I saw at least four Provo police officers separately stop by to pick up their food order.

The new management is horrible here. I have literally spent hundreds (maybe over 1,000) dollars at El Mexsal, but that was before the new management came. In addition, I've persuaded hundreds of dollars from family and friends to eat here as well. The food quality has rapidly deteriorated. Today the lights were off for 3/4 of the meal. They would come on for a couple minutes then off for 20 then on then off again. When I've been back the owner does not treat the patrons well. El Mexsal was in my top 2 favorite restaurants of all time, but after how I was treated I'll never return. I will also be telling my family and friends to never return too. We'll be finding a new lunch spot.Parking: Parking is really difficult.

The orchata and pupusas are good, their time to serve is awful. 45 minutes after my to go order and I am still waiting. I ordered two pupusas and a drink. They came over to tell me my order was nearly ready more than ten minutes ago. My order is simple and not complex. I may not come back, if I do I will call in my order 45 minutes ahead. ?
