Cafe Rico - Puerto Vallarta

Ate at Café Rico a couple of times. Best coffee in Vallarta along with outstanding breakfasts. The photo above on trip advisor is not of Café Rico. Unfortunately they closed their doors last Friday and a new place is set to open this Monday, March 10, 2014.

Cafe Rico is easily missed. It is in the Zona Romantica but is small and on a quiet section of Ignacio L. Vallarta although just really just steps away from all the activity on Badillo and from Freddy's Toucan. Apparently Cafe Rico was a corner variety store at one time.While we ate at Freddy's once we prefer to have a quieter, less crowded, more relaxed breakfast at a small family-run place. Cafe Rico offered us just that. It didn't hurt either that the breakfasts were quite inexpensive. We stayed in a condo nearby and went to Cafe Rico several times, enough times that we were greeted like family whenever we arrived.The lovely folks there offer Mexican breakfasts and we enjoyed those but mostly we wound up having a heatlhy breakfast of large bowls of yogourt, fresh fruit, and granola. My partner couldn't resist ordering the delicious home-made tortillas each time though. I'm a coffee drinker and thought that their coffee was excellent. Cafe Rico is a simple but very pleasant spot that only serves breakfast and lunch, there is no garden or patio to eat on, but we sure enjoyed it and are sure to eat a number of breakfasts there when we are next in Puerto Vallarta.
