Our reservation was noted, but we had to wait a long time for the bill after finishing our meal. The restaurant owner may want to consider ways to improve efficiency and turnover. The food was good, including the appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks, but the long wait may deter me from returning.
We dined at this charming little restaurant in the lower town near the railway station twice. Both times, the food was excellent and prepared by two talented young chefs in the open kitchen. On Saturday, we were served by a delightful waitress who managed a fairly busy restaurant with speed, charm, and efficiency. However, on Sunday, we had a rather odd encounter with a man who claimed to be the owner. He shared stories about his grandfather who owned a restaurant and used his grandmother's recipes in the kitchen. He referred to the previous day's waitress as "my colleague," talked a lot at our table, and insisted on pouring our drinks for us. Despite the delicious food prepared by the chefs, we decided not to return for a third night out of concern for encountering the peculiar waiter again. During the payment process, we made it known that tips were appreciated but not mandatory, as there was no preset percentage for gratuity on his credit card machine.
My wife and I were thrilled to eat here for all the good reviews. when we arrived there, the server spoke to us in French. when I said I don't speak French, he told us he spoke five languages and we should at least. speak French. When he returned ten minutes later, he spoke to us in French again, I repeated that I did not speak he sarcastically replied that he might not speak English. at this point we had enough and left. there are so many great restaurants in quebec city with friendly staff, they don't waste their time here shamed and annoyed for non-speaking French.
Well, we went here with a group of from work. A couple on our party had already been and raved about it. Boy, it delivered on the food. Tourtiere was so good, not your typical but apparently more authentic. Either way, it was fantastic....The place has a cottage, comfort grandma feel with a mix of wooden chairs. The food Star. The but is, the wait. Be prepared to wait and wait. When they say they cook from scratch, they do. Our tourtiere took about an hour to come to table which we were prepared for. But for some reason, my order got missed and almost felt he was blaming me for the mistake and have to wait even longer. But it just could have been lost in translation. Just could have been handled a little differently. So mins later I got my food. But all and all, it was worth it. Just expect to wait.
