We enjoyed a wonderful evening dining with the Kings. They met us at the door with a glass of complimentary sangria and an opportunity to chat with the other guests then we moved indoors to separate tables to enjoy the fabulous food. Multiple courses of elegant food with a choice between two entrees and two desserts. You may bring your own bottle of wine if you wish.
This is a five-star meal in a beautiful home in a room with a five-star view overlooking the inlet by Queen Charlotte City. Diane and Jeff prepare an amazing spread of appetizers that look like that will be the whole meal. And then, after the appetizers, came the main course ~ in our case a delicious beef dish or salmon. The side dish of vegetables were beautifully presented (as was each dish and the dishes they were served in). The caramelized onions with the tomato and zucchini had one guest at our table asking about how the chef got the onions in their "to-die-for,melt-in-your-mouth" consistency. Dining with the Kings will be one of the good reasons to return to these islands another summer to enjoy the sights and tastes of Haida Gawii
A busy Friday July 7th evening for the King's in their lovely home overlooking the waters of Skidegate Inlet. We had a perfect table for two by the window and the menu could not have suited my husband better with favored lamb chops as his main and me with the salmon. Appetizer of fresh shrimp and lightly tossed lemon vinaigrette salad refreshed the palate to start. Loved being able to bring our own wine. Everything was beautifully served (great dessert) and Dianne and her staff work well as a team. Jeff cooked everything to perfection and we enjoyed his formal greeting to all the guests to enjoy this unique dining experience in their home.
Like Keenawaii’s Kitchen, Dining with the Kings is not an actual restaurant: you sit with Jeff King, and his wife Dianne, for a fabulous meal in their home atop a hill. The space is kind of small, but we thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. The set menu changes almost daily, so it’s kind of a surprise as to what you’ll get; however, the Kings specialize in French and Italian cuisine – some interesting fusion typically occurs! What we appreciate most is the fact that everything you eat – from the delicious starts all the way to dessert – is homemade. (the cheese souffle and ginger salmon was outstanding!) You can tell that both Jeff and Dianne love to cook and entertain, regaling their guests with many a fine story about the local area.If you happen to be visiting Haida Gwaii and are around the Queen Charlotte area, then you really should consider coming here for dinner. It’s a unique and wonderful experience that, as a whole, is leaps and bounds above anything else on offer at restaurants in the Village of Queen Charlotte. Excellent hosts and amazing food – what more could one ask for?FOOD: 4.5/5SERVICE: 5/5VALUE: 5/5RECOMMENDATION: Easily the best dining experience in the Village of Queen Charlotte. Do yourself a favour and Dine with the Kings!
