Pros: The rolls were pretty good; they were made well and tasted fresh. The prices are reasonable, with simple rolls starting at $5 and more complex ones going up to around $16, although most are priced at about $9. Cons: Our server seemed a bit distracted and may have appeared either unhappy or unfriendly, even though there were only about three tables occupied in the whole place. They might have been understaffed, so I won’t hold that too much against them since the food was decent. One of the rolls I ordered, the Futomaki, was prepared a bit differently than I’m used to, but it was still acceptable. The thicker, crunchy carrot caught me off guard. Overall, it’s not a bad option, and perhaps we just visited at an inconvenient time. I suggest giving them a try; hopefully, you’ll have a better experience. They also seem to have some good lunch deals.
This restaurant features a classic, traditional Asian decor, but the food is truly excellent! I was particularly impressed with the sashimi; it was incredibly fresh. The salmon sashimi was outstanding—the richness of the fish was so evident, and I absolutely loved it! The Kings Roll was packed with ingredients and very enjoyable, but it didn’t have anything that really stood out or gave it a unique 'kick' like I’m used to experiencing with other loaded rolls. Overall, it was a great meal!
Taiko Sushi is Rancho's hidden gem! The Miso soup was exquisite! I also had the Crystal Shrimp roll, which featured crunchy shrimp, cream cheese, spicy crab salad, and was topped with avocado, sweet sauce, and spicy mayo. I can't wait to return!
During happy hour, they offer $2 off their 'Chef's Special Rolls' and 'Specialty Rolls.' I typically order two rolls, as they are often not very large. I started with a beer and eagerly awaited my choices: the Rakuso (spicy tuna and cucumber topped with unagi and masago) and the Samurai (spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and avocado topped with fresh salmon and masago). The sushi chef asked if I wanted them one at a time, and I told him to go with whatever was easiest for him. Since there weren't many other guests, the rolls came out quickly. Wow! There was so much food. He later explained he offered them one at a time in case I got full after just one. Good to know for next time! I couldn’t let these beautifully presented rolls go to waste. I took a slight pause during my meal, but I managed to finish them all. They were absolutely wonderful, and I was very satisfied—I’m so glad I tried this sushi spot. The chef was friendly, and I even had a nice chat with him. Next time, I think I’ll go for just one glass of beer and one roll. If you’re in the area (or even if you’re not), you should definitely give them a try—you won’t be disappointed!
