The Goon on security said my partner had stumbled out of the cab we arrived in. 72 year old who was far from drunk on a wet night. He judged his decision to exclude her on her reply to his question of how much she 'd had to drink. She said not many . He quoted this as a regular response in situations of intoxication. She left the situation and I was allowed in. I took up the challenge of his decision and he called for the Manager. My partner came back(as I had they keys) and expressed her disappointment not being able to join me. 100% coherant and capable. The Manager expressed his disappointment at the security persons actions but we left regardless. I 'd asked The Goon who he worked for in the first instance because I knew it wasn 't the venues issue. He refused to tell me. His partner from another door came over and was very sheepish. I think knowing that his co-worker was in the wrong. Venue is fine, the individual on security would be better served riding a scooter for menulog.
Does a great Sunday roast. Generous portions of well cooked roast beef. All the trimmings included. Always a winner
Went for dinner Sunday night at 7:00. with family (interstate visitors). Had a table booked (confirmed by the dog by text). Get to the dining room and no record of our booking and the dining room very busy. Staff had to kick people off a table to accommodate us. Went to order our meals “ roast, steak, pie and fish and chips sold out” staff were pleasant but embarrassed to tell us no food. A very limited menu Can’t be that hard to have adequate food stock that reflects a limited menu. Very disappointed!!!!
After reading sufficient 4 and 5 star reviews, we headed off to one of Sydney 's Best Steak Pubs only to be very disappointed. The steak was tepid, dry and it seemed it had been par cooked, waiting for the order to 'heat it up ' and get it out there. To be sure the wait time was short. A little too short in retrospect. There were no juices in that steak. Having ordered it cooked medium, being pink inside was fine, but without a drop of juice in sight. The look of it on arrival was, well, dead; desiccated. Flavourless and juiceless. The chips too seemed like they 'd be pre-cooked and quickly heated again. In other words, double fried in less than fresh oil. The other dish, the salmon was OK. I mean, you really have to make a point of ruining a piece of salmon. But it sat upon a drizzle of harrisa which was overpowered with a cinnamon flavour. Not my idea of a compliment for salmon. The broccolini was just fine. So, suffice it to say that if Merivale wants to maintain their culinary primacy around Sydney, they will need to revisit what is going on at The Dog Hotel. So disappointing.
Great chicken and also eggplant parma Quick friendly service Cosy atmosphere and at the bar not noisy which was a pleasant surprise
