Back Of Beyond - Reading

This pub has served well as a base while supporting family to visit a family member in hospital as it very convenient for the buses involved. I am not a fan of much of what Wetherspoons stands for. Their owners political views which he unfortunately...forces on customers are the polar opposite of mine. However, inspite of this this branch appears well run and the staff are excellent. The food on numerous visits was always good value and portions were good for Wetherspoons. The front of the pub is notably warmer than the front. The ales I had over the last three weeks were varied and all well kept.

If only Wetherspoons had a decent website, or did social media. Although I checked the website in advance, it wasn't until I arrived at the pub there was any notice of the kitchen being closed for refurbishment. Very disappointing and surprising given I assume a...Wetherspoons kitchen is a deep fat fryer and few microwaves...

Today I purchased a standard traditional  English at your Back of Beyond' pub in Reading, Berkshire. It was very poor. Your magazine states a great way to start the day' it wasn't, even thought I started my early morning delivery round at finished at I took my serving back to the kitchen as there were no hash browns on the plate. Only then was I informed the frying machine wasn't working. Told me that they had supplied extra toast and apologised. I had ordered via the app, so no warning hash browns not on. However, why didn't the waitress inform me of the issue when she delivered my order? The toast' was just bread that had been left out in the sun to harden and finished off with a blow torch to brown the edges. Lurpak spreadable degrees more in temperature and I would only be able to pour it onto the toast. Appreciate it has been allowed to soften, but to the extent where it's near pourable is unacceptable. Sausage this had been deep fried and overcooked to a dark brown/black colour thought the frying machine wasn't working? Baked beans only body temperature warm, therefore tepid. How can you mess up not having hot baked beans dished onto a plate? Fried egg left to sit in the frying pan to caramelise and harden the base.  Bacon ok. Yates pub, together with other establishments, serve a breakfast within walking distance why should I return to this Wetherspoons to get a very low standard of service and low quality meal?

Nice for central reading beer garden out the back by the water. We didn't eat but the drinks were good. Ordering on the app was easy and delivered by several friendly waitresses. Covid measures in place. Our visit was enjoyable, no problems.

A lot better than the Hope Tap (That place is weird). Cheap and cheerful. Guy in the glasses is a bit of a jobs worth and was probably a PCSO in a past life but aside from him, I love it there.
