The fish was a thick piece of white cod, but it was overcooked and a bit dry. The batter was also too thick and undercooked inside. The chips were tasty, but I suspect they may have been left under the heat lamp for too long, as they were dry and hard on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. The restaurant is not cheap, but with some improvements in the kitchen, it could be really great.
I came here for fish and chips, as the restaurant is named Mr. Cod. One would expect decent fish and chips, but unfortunately the portion sizes are small, comparable to a McDonald's Happy Meal. The chips tasted old and greasy, and the fish was flavorless and small. The quality of the fish is low and it would be better to make it at home. Additionally, the staff was rude and unhelpful. That's all.
The restaurant manager with a mustache is rude and dismissive. I always go to the Whitley Street location, even though it's farther away.
Yet another great retreat from this herrn cod, ordered by deliveroo. hot and fresh rubbed. mega filet burger was perfect this time and the kabeljau was enormous.
Visited for a tea time takeaway, yesterday. First fish and chips since March and lockdown. Good proper reasonably sized portion of chip shop chips. Nice batter on the just cooked haddock. The fish was nice and white, but could have been a bit bigger. Perfect...mushy peas but the size of the portion was minute. It wasn't a complicated order but the assistant struggled to get the right fish with the right portion of chips. With a bit of proper management this place could be a real find.
