It can be tough for any restaurant to accommodate a large party and Astha shone through the entire dinner. Our owner/service was unflappable and the owner/chef must have been flying around the kitchen to prepare and present all of our dishes together. We had everything from Bharta to Roti and it was all very good. The Naan was exceptional. We had a great experience and will be sure to visit again when we return to Red Deer.
First off, we have eaten at this restaurant many times and haven 't been disappointed...until now. We ordered vegetable pakora as an appetizer, a Rani beer and a glass of house white. Well the beer was $8/bottle and so was my house wine. I also asked for a club soda and was charged $3.00 for a pop . Most other places don 't charged for carbonated water. Then we ordered the shrimp biryani, butter chicken and bhuna lamb plus some steamed rice and garlic naan. The waitress never said anything about the shrimp biryani coming with rice so we had too much rice, we didn 't need to order a separate serving of steamed rice $6). The shrimp biryani $18) had 7 shrimp and the butter chicken $17) had 6 small cubes of chicken. That 's a pretty steep price for not much more than sauce. The bhuna lamb wasn 't much better. My husband had a couple more Rani 's and all told our bill came to $104 before tax. The meal certainly wasn 't worth $104. If they don 't lower their prices or give a good quantity of meat/shrimp in their dishes I highly doubt we will return. There are too many other restaurants that will appreciate our business.
Astha has the best butter chicken we’ve ever had (and we love butter chicken! , the naan bread is fresh and absolutely delicious. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for any foodie looking to enjoy some good Indian dish.
Took my wife for dinner to the Astha Restaurant in Red Deer the other night. This has to be amongst the best Indian restaurant in central Alberta. The ambiance of the restaurant was conducive to the whole dining experience. The service was fantastic, and the food excellent. We really enjoyed our night out and highly recommend this restaurant.
Love, love, love this place. Food is amazing and service is fantastic. Butter chicken is always our go to and then we order a variety of other dishes. We haven’t found a dish we don’t like. We come here as often as we can when traveling to or through Red Deer.
