La pomme de pain, autoroute a1, aire de ressons est, ressons sur matz, frankreich we were on this morning at 07.00 clock and left epinay sur his one hour later with sufficient time – we hoped – to miss the staus in the A1/E19 autoroute du...Nord für paris charles de gaulle airport and orte norden. we did; traffic was busy, but moved. (in the city it was static – imagine. north of the airport opened the a1 and was empty; many trucks drove on this way naturally. we had to catch the car ferry for 16.00 h, so much time in which the 300 km to dunkerque (and negotiate the stau typical for the arras lille route, where the a1 a25 are free of charge - here they find dense commercial traffic . after we cleared the airport, it was a case to look for the first autoroute service/aire; we found one at ressons sur matz ca. 80 km north of St. denis and moved from the autobahn. we went to dunkerque to come the afternoon. we thought that we should have 2 3 hours in the hand – enough time to explore the museum, the "operation dynamo" celebrates and the retaliation of > 338,000 outdated troops from the beaches of dunkerque in May/June 1940. then we would go for the port/question. we drove around the tank and just before the change to the autoroute there, to the right, was the restaurant complex – L’Arche/Autogrille aire de ressons est; it included the snack bar/sandwich/café la pomme de pain, facing the service road that led back to a1. exactly what we were looking for – in a word “consciousness”. we moved into a parking bay and drove the steps and inside. large 1980s built design building with steep slant roof and extensive glass, climbing the wide flat steps under the open wood veranda (and the hanging flower basket pass the external menu table. they know that they are in “Euro-Land” when everything is written in French English – the number of English cars on the street this morning. in the inner of the place was everything except abandoned. all these negative reviews? who knows? most people probably go to the most important Autogrille/L’Arche restaurants and are stuck in their English breakfast. this is their typical autoroute fuel/rest stop – the place they find everywhere on the highways/car routes stradi/ bahnen europas. the place was quiet, clean looking and, key theme, there were people who serve them – real people. Previously, south of paris, we moved to a fully automated stop/force station. imagine. that was a surprise – we had no idea that they existed. there was a sense that you could cross the country to italia south without actually hitting any french. the name of caffes says it all – baskettes brotrolle with a galaxie of filling €4 €7, bark meat burger €8, package half dozen roll €11, and the colossal for sandwich €14,50 with all kinds of sides, water and more available. they should have starved for this. there was a handful dolce €2 €3 and the usual boissons chaudes – tee, coffee, milk, chocolate for the same prices. at least the man was friendly and efficient on the theke. we chose the “Menu matin Sucré” – caffe au lait, pain aux raisins, croissant and cappuccino and shared the meal. cost 7,70 € as they would find in their average local caffe. at the window we sat at the rest of the place. fresh brioche hot, tasty coffee – okund sufficient for our break. twenty minutes after the first arrival in le pomme de pain we were back on the a1 direction north. on the way we bought a few sandwiches for lunch – further €8 – and finally they ate with a look at some at a place close to le parc du vent east of dunkerque center; bright sunshine, smooth blue sea, color, quiet, few people around none of these 1940 pictures then. peter steele 01 juni 2019
