As a traveler, I enjoy sampling meals from various restaurants during my stay. However, my friend and I felt unfairly treated and discriminated against by the female employees, who made us feel as though we were being singled out for being Asian. Despite consistently ordering dishes we enjoyed and tipping generously, we were met with hostility and disrespect during multiple visits. On one occasion, a waitress berated us for simply requesting a larger plate and even mentioned her educational background and ethnicity as a means of asserting dominance. We were left feeling insulted and humiliated, leading us to refuse to pay for our meal and leave without eating. Inconsistencies in pricing and overall poor customer service from different waitresses further added to our disappointment. When we expressed our intention to file a complaint with the manager and headquarters, we were met with indifference and refusal to provide employee names. This lack of accountability and professionalism among staff members is concerning and likely contributes to negative experiences for other patrons. My local friend has already shared our negative encounter with her acquaintances, as this level of mistreatment would not be tolerated in the United States. Overall, I am deeply disappointed with the service and treatment received at this establishment.
My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant. The food was excellent, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was perfect. The restaurant is conveniently located in the shopping mall, which made parking and shopping very easy.
Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were informed that we were allotted the table we had reserved in advance until 2:45. This was not an issue, as we had experienced a similar policy at the Richmond Cactus Club in the past. We enjoyed our meal, however, at 2:15, our server began to hover and repeatedly asked if we wanted more, despite us still enjoying our post-meal teas and coffees. She returned multiple times, despite barely being present in the last 45 minutes. At 2:35, she reluctantly informed us that her manager had instructed her to ask us to leave once we had paid the bill and left a tip. We were already aware of the time limit and had planned to leave by 2:45. I found the way this was handled to be quite distasteful and rude. We hastily said goodbye to our family and departed the restaurant feeling disgruntled. In the future, I will be taking my business to Steveston restaurants where the service is superior, the food is excellent, and the parking is more abundant.
Love Cactus Club, salad and handhelds! Perfect cocktails. Always a great visit to this restaurant.
It had been nearly 4 years since I’d patronized a Cactus Club, so it was nice to visit the unit in Richmond Centre (opened November 2017). My partner and I attended for lunch, following an excursion at nearby Minoru Park. I was excited to come...here for a couple of reasons: 1) The Cactus Club is consistent regardless of location; that is to say, the food is always nicely presented, tastes really good, and is offered at a fair price; 2) This would be my first time at a Cactus Club since the Fuller family, who owns Earls, acquired full ownership of the chain in February 2022. Let me address point #2 first: When I learned of the takeover, I was initially concerned. Typically, when that happens, major changes are made . . . to the operating philosophy . . . to staff . . . and the food. Thankfully, the Fullers appear fully aware of this potential slippery slope because, as of this writing, things appear to be very much the same. The Cactus Club still feels like the Cactus Club, if that makes any sense! In short, the Fullers know it is best not to mess with an established brand because, well, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!” In regards to food, we ordered the Prawn Crunch Roll for an appetizer and the Butternut Squash Ravioli w/ prawns the Teriyaki Chicken Rice Bowl for our mains. Without getting overly wordy, I’ll just say the food was vintage Cactus Club – everything from appetizer to mains were on point and satisfied to the ninth degree! I think special mention should be made of the sushi roll: Made with crispy prawns, mango, avocado, asparagus, cucumber, sesame soy paper, sriracha mayo and a soy glaze, the Prawn Crunch Roll was just as tasty as it looked. We loved the crunch of the prawn, the subtle sweetness of the mango, the freshness of the cucumber and the light “kick” afforded by the sriracha mayo. We both felt, for a place that doesn’t specialize in sushi, this particular roll was damn tasty and we’d definitely order it again. Bravo to the team at Cactus Club for putting together such a fantastic lunch! FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: The Cactus Club in Richmond Centre met our expectations and left us satisfied! I’m happy to see there’ve been no major overhauls since the takeover, and hopefully it stays that way. If you’re visiting the mall and in need of a bite to eat, then Cactus Club has you covered. Highly recommended! PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the helpful button!
