If you arrive at Richmond-Brighouse Station, the restaurant is a short walk up to Park Rd. It’s a corner lot in another small shopping village. We read that it gets busy during lunch so we decided to visit on a Thursday before 11am (they open at 10:30am) and when we got inside, there were already a few tables filled with diners. We were a party of two and we were seated straightaway at a small table. We ordered Chinese tea (chrysanthemum and pu’er combo 菊普) and six dishes – deep fried minced pork dumplings (咸水角), steamed dumpling with crab meat (娥姐蒸粉果), steamed bean curd sheet with meat in oyster sauce (蠔皇鮮竹卷), beef tripe in scallop sauce (柱候金錢肚), pastry with pork (蜜汁叉燒酥) and steamed sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf (珍珠糯米鷄). All dishes come with 3 pieces of each item except for the beef tripe, which was a small-sized plate. All were pretty tasty with my favourite being the pastry with pork (蜜汁叉燒酥) as the pastry was very buttery. The sticky rice was a lot more rice than filling and the taste wasn’t too bad; the tripe was soft and a little bit chewy which I like; the bean curd sheets were soft and there was plenty of sauce to make it moist; the mince dumpling was chewy and had a small amount of filling. Prices as at early May SML $4.38, MED $4.98, LRG $5.38, SPCL $5.95 and tea $1.20/pp.This was really the first dim sum place I’ve been to in Vancouver and obviously, these experiences are best with a larger group of people so you can order more types of food. There weren’t a lot of variety compared to other dim sum places that I'm used to. But then again, it’s been many years since I last went to yum cha so things have probably changed. Golden Paramount is also not the pushcart type of dim sum place; rather you have a sheet where you mark which items you want and they’ll bring your orders out steaming hot.As for atmosphere, it’s a small restaurant and when we arrived and as the tables started filling up, I felt it was quite stuffy inside. Only about halfway through our meal they turned on the aircon. Service-wise, I felt it was pretty much the same as other Asian restaurants. That is, not overly friendly and I felt we were rushed towards the end to pack up and go cos there was another diner waiting on a table for two. As far as I could see, all tables were for large groups except for a couple of tables specifically for parties of two. Anyway, it was still a nice meal out.
The restaurant was totally occupied at noon time. I was fortunate in sourcing parking directly in front of the Golden Paramount. Although the dim sum items were varied the prices were comparable to that of Kirin & Neptune. Service was good with our orders arriving promptly and piping hot.
Delicousness and satisfying. Best dim sum lunch in very long time. Courteous Prompt service. Comfortable atmosphere Good value
I specifically sought out this restaurant to try the fried oysters. Went at lunch time with my son for dim sum. The oysters are called "Pan fried oysters in spicy sauce". So yummy!I will return to try other dishes as the ones we sampled were very tasty.
You have to know what to order here, there're a few dishes that they're just fabulous with, service is so so and one server in particular has a very sour face, some of the staff used to work with Chef Leung of Hoi Tong fame, but if you're a regular they'll warm up to you and most of the patrons are regular customers. Reservation for dinner is a must as it's a fairly small place, and tables are set tight.
