The excess bacon ruined the flavor and the thought of consuming so much fat was unappetizing. A lighter touch with the bacon would have been sufficient for the flavor I was anticipating. I am hesitant to revisit this restaurant. There are superior dining choices available at YVR.
The sandwich is made with freshly baked bread and the soup is quite good, but the salads are small with limited vegetable options.
Who knows me knows I have a little trouble with Subway. I'm just fighting about how and why this place is as popular as it is. I get that they are a massive marketing machine and play the whole “healthy food”...and really good (even if most of the subs, unless you go naked bones, are not much healthier than, say McDonald’s), but the subs are not even good. I was in many locations over the years and very rarely did I come over a who left me “wow! Finally!” In fact, I can easily count this number on one hand. Typically, after eating a subway, I have the loss of Mr. Sub in this province (there are only two sites left). Mr. Sub, as I have written elsewhere, routinely produces subs that are fresh, high quality and, no matter how basic you make them, are still full of taste. This is in strong contrast to the massive MNC otherwise known as subway, where you can load a sub-sandwich with everything under the sun and it will still taste . . . . It is really very curious. This brings me to this YVR-based subway. The hotel is located at level 3 in the domestic departures food court (before safety), this is one of only two restaurants open 24-hours (the other is a Tim Hortons). It seems to be done at all hours of the day, but is very popular among those who either work late at the airport or have to catch a late flight. During the late hours the staff will be reduced to a person who is not too big a problem because the lonely employee is still quite efficient, even if a modest line begins to form. I just visited this subway maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 10 or so years, because to be honest, there are only better options in and around YVR. Until a year ago, the pizza hat in the food dish was a nice option, but with its closure the YVR home food dish has much more mediocre. Well, if time is allowed, I will visit White Spot or JAPADOG directly before international arrival/departments. Either of these options blows the food court offerings – including subway – out of the water. That said, I just recently visited this location to eat a quick bite after a late night arrival. I came here shortly before 10:30 and ordered the meatball-Marinara subsection (soaked). I have to say that the sub was not bad overall. The meatballs were tasteful and the vegetables were fresh. My only criticism? Some of the green pepper slices were far too large and ended the dominance of the sub. Otherwise, this was probably one of the better subs I had on this chain in a good time. Does that change my view of Subway? No, much more than a place must impress me for it. . . but it's a good start. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 3/5 VALUE: 3/5 RECOMMENDATION: A subway is a subway and you either love it or you don't. If you find yourself in YVR in “regular” hours, I would recommend checking other food options, just because Subway is so typical unnoticed. However, if you go (or arrive) late, then this is a suitable option. The staff is friendly and the ingredients fresh. There's nothing special about this subway. The service is slow, but with only one employee she worked the best. The sandwiches were well prepared. The cookies were great. Bread was as expected at the end of the day. Prices... were on the high side, but not more than other chain restaurants in the airport. While it is far from great, we have eaten here several times over the years. Better than some of the other experiences with food at this airport. If you are from the USA, please note that the subways in Canada do not have the same cheese and dressing choice as a subway in the USA. ex: no provolone cheese, no vinegar and oil. Depending on the setting, this can be important to you.
I love subway and I understand airport you will need to pay more and get less....but this one take poor service to a new level. I ordered two foot long sub. One pull pork and one meat ball. I got one sub of mixed pull...pork with meat ball. I told her when I saw the wrong but I was told too late to change order because pork and meat ball already mixed and baked. Very bad but what can I do....I got a flight to catch
