The Boathouse used to be one of my favorite restaurants. As with most establishment the pandemic changed the way they did business. Now things are not the same. We went for brunch and asked the sever a couple of questions and she said this was only her third brunch shift. Our drink order came out incorrect. I asked to not have the sausage gravy and it came out with the sausage gravy, which I detest. My cousins wanted bacon in her omelet and there was none. Before we got ready to leave three lemon drop martinis were about to be incorrectly delivered to our table. So he takes them to the table next to ours, still wrong. What’s going on and yet they are due an automatic 20% tip? They say the 20% is so the wait staff can be paid a living wage. Tips are a compliment and reflective of the services rendered, not a living wage. A living wage should be paid by the employer. Some would say that would raise menu prices but they are already higher sooooooo why not pay them out of that and let me decide my tip, which is customarily higher than 20% especially when service is good.

Richard was a star server in every conceivable way. I wasn't in your beautiful restaurant since the pandemic and Richard made learning the new order fun and easy! The food was as phenomenal as the view, but this is always the case. I really enjoyed my visit and so glad I decided to take my kidneys to show her what the best of Richmond has to offer.
