For example ‘tomato and mozzarella’ was not tomatoes but a tomato purée, and two of three sandwiches had bread with pesto soaked in. Fine fir this to be the sandwich called a Pesto sandwich but a surprise to find an equal amount in the Sicilian sandwich. Freshly prepared did not mean prepared on premises to order as it implies, but apparently made elsewhere by the caterers and brought in. Prices OK but service poor staff friendly but complete confusion over drinks order
Me and my family decided to have a snack here so my mum ordered a coffee and my dad ordered a cappuccino. It was very expensive for such simple day-to-day foods as obviously profit is to be made as it is at the palace. The cup of coffees my parents had were very tiny so it was a waste of big money for such a small thing. I do not recommend this for the beverages. We haven't tried the food but the location of this cafe was exquisite with crows everywhere on perches and a picturesque scenery of the fountain with crystal- like water. Lovely furniture and location where the sun overlooked us. Late afternoon snack was not worth it, we do not strongly regret this but next time we would know not to make the same spending money mistake again. For the service, we barely saw them come out- really empty. This fountain cafe can make do with some improvements.
Had a lovely day at Hampton court palace but have to say very disappointed in the afternoon tea. Paid £18.95 for the Royal one. The pot of coffee was very small, glass of bubbly was forgotten and we had to chase it. My daughter is a vegetarian and was given miniature egg mayo sandwiches and a cucumber and mint one. The vinegar in the cucumber one was so strong you couldn't eat them. The cakes are miniscule. My friend chose normal slice of cake, which I wish we had chosen. Afternoon tea is not worth the money. As there was a downpour it was quite hard getting to pay as it's so cramped and normally you order from outside. Sadly spoilt our afternoon.
In many visits to Hampton Court Palace, this was the one café that I had not visited. It was busy on the day that I was there so service was a little slow. Staff were friendly and polite and coped well with the demands made of them. The food was fairly standard with not many options, but perhaps on a less busy day this would not be the case.
Very pleasant place to stop for lunch in a relaxed courtyard and have a sandwich. Best to go just before the lunch out as it’s quite a small eating area.
