I used to be a regular customer a few years ago, but last weekend on 29 March, I placed an online order that was accepted, but never arrived. Despite trying to contact them by phone for two hours until midnight, no one answered. The charge on my account was pending for two days before being fully charged, and I am now having to deal with my bank to get a reimbursement. It seems their online system is still functioning, so be cautious when ordering from Gourmet Oriental to avoid being charged £60 for nothing.
I placed an online order for a meal at 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 30th for delivery between 6:30 and 7:00 pm that evening. However, the meal never arrived. Despite trying to contact them via 3 phone numbers and sending 2 emails, I did not receive a response. I paid for the order upfront and am now out £37.80. It has been four days and I still have not heard back. If you decide to order from this restaurant, I recommend paying on delivery instead of in advance.
I placed an online order for delivery and received a confirmation with an estimated delivery time between 7:30-8pm. I called at 8pm but received no answer. I called multiple times with no luck, ultimately giving up at 9pm. This restaurant has terrible service with multiple branches and phone numbers but zero customer service. I suggest avoiding this place unless you want to risk going hungry like I did.
I’m unsure why this place gets such bad reviews, I’ve only had great experiences. I find the food healthier and less greasy salty than other takeaways which is why I order from them on the rare occasion I get food delivered and pay the higher prices. It’s only delivery I believe, and my favourite dishes are the lemon fish (SO tasty) and the General tsos tofu (I think that’s what it’s called very spicy so if you don’t like spice this is not for you). I am just up the road from them, perhaps resulting in the REALLY fast delivery. I was surprised to read the comments on the customer service as I have always found them very pleasant over the phone. They once made a mistake in the order, giving me a meat dish instead of veggie and I am a pescatarian they were very apologetic over the phone and delivered the correct one within 15 minutes.
This is a reliably tasty takeaway, and I have only one caveat. A few months ago they stopped including free fortune cookies, and now they have stopped including free prawn crackers. The call takers now sound Antipodean and I suspect a change of ownership.
