Her Filipino husband added too much milk to my tea, which was surprising considering his Indonesian wife only drinks tea. This behavior is disrespectful and not in line with English heritage. The restaurant should employ English Heritage-minded, intelligent, polite, non-violent, God-fearing staff.
Ever since English Heritage took over this cafe, it has been completely renovated and has seen a huge improvement. I cannot understand the negative reviews from before. The outdoor seating area is lovely, the staff are pleasant, and the tables are always clean whenever I visit, which is often! They serve delicious coffee and pastries.
This used to be a lovely cafe run by a charming couple with a good and varied menu. Our first visit since it has been taken over by English Heritage. Decor may be appealing but extremely offhand and disinterested staff (with poor command of English). Weak coffee. Don’t take cash which alienates a good portion of society including the elderly. Clearly English Heritage are just out to make as much money as possible with little concern for social niceties.
This used to be charming but despite it’s lovely location has really gone down hill. Limited menu, indolent staff, uncleared up tables and it’s obvious the outside tables have not been properly wiped/cleaned for weeks. Such a shame
We bought 2 elderflower bottle drinks and 2 packs of sandwiches and bill came to £17.10. There is only a very limited breakfast menu served all day. lovely outdoor seating and indoor area.
