I had such a terrible flight from from Luton and was running on 2 straight days with no sleep. The staff were so helpful and understanding that they let me go straight up to my room and sleep before the official check-in time. I made friends with a lovely German girl who let me borrow her sandies for the shower, and then promptly passed in my very bouncy, moderately comfortable bed....and in my hosteling experience, that sort of description deserves a grade of A+. The hostel itself is narrow and multi-leveled, which has always been aesthetically pleasing to me. After a good long nap, I made friends in the kitchen where everyone seemed to congregate, and then did what people visiting Scotland do: Get faaacked. No problems with cleanliness, staff, internet availability nor safety. Everyone and everything was extremely pleasant. It was even a convenient 5 minute walk away from all the nightlife as well as the local scene near the university. This place is a good find!
Do not book this hostel unless you have no other alternative. They over charge for unsanitary rooms covered in previous guests' genetic filth (see pictures of pubic hair and semen stains found on our beds upon checking in), and this during a global pandemic when some baseline cleanliness standards are instantiated in law. To top it off, they have a no refund policy that they keep well hidden from you until after booking. Scammers, exploiters, and rip-off artists. Look elsewhere for accommodations.
Pros: Ok cleanliness Cheap Cons: Restrictive (never seen a hostel with that many rules taped on everything) Under-equipped (one shower, one sauce pan, one fry pan, one cooker for the entire hostel) In short, it's a really ok hostel if you're used to cheap hostels, but expect long waits in cooking, taking showers, etc. and they will ask you to follow many rules.
We went a few years back and had a terrible experience. Our group was separated on arrival (not a big deal) and when we asked the front desk person why, he told us that it 's because the girls should be near the bathroom otherwise they bitch . When asked for clarification, we found out that there was only one working bathroom. It 's worth mentioning that the two separate buildings are across the street from each other... and at the time, one of them had a door that was a sheet of wood you would slide into and out of place.
Stayed here for 3 nights after flying into Glasgow this place is run well, and the staff is friendly and helpful. There are lockers in the lobby for locking up valuables some of the biggest lockers I've seen at any hostel and a decent kitchen plus a hostel guard dog, outdoor picnic/bbq facilities, and always a good crowd to hang and chat. Showers and toilets were clean but the TP seemed to run out daily. The staff who did the cleaning were very meticulous about their routine (I just wish the closet w/cleaning supplies had not been inside the bedroom where I was staying one MAJOR bad point: none of the rooms seem to have plugs in them you have to sit in the hall or downstairs to charge anything (or leave your device unsupervised, which, well, it seems fairly safe there, but... Overall a good bet and a good value for the money.
