Prior to the current cuisine, it was a fine Bohemian restaurant with many enjoyable visits with family and friends. The current kitchen is quite good with selections for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The entries are simple, presented nice on the plate, and quite tasty. There is something for everyone. The decor is what was available in the 50's, but it gave me feelings from my youth. One other point was that the place was warm, without the high velocity cold air blowing from the ceiling vents. All wait staff were friendly and pleasant. When I am in the area, this is my place to enjoy good tasting food no matter what time of day. There are a few similar family owned grills on the north side of Chicago which I frequent that are on the same par as Michael's Pancake House.Make Michael's Pancake House your favorite spot to eat instead of the corporate giants that give CEO's bonuses for pleasing the stock holders.
Wonderful food that I personally enjoyed after a difficult swim practice on early mornings this summer, great food for mornings and if you want to dine with one person or
Ordered a doordash order.Got what I ordered. However, the 'hashbrowns ' from this place are not hashbrowns. It 's just a really burnt baked potato. Either that, or shredded potato they just decided to leave on the grill until it was black. I have cheese on it so it affects the view. Definitely doesn 't taste like hashbrowns. Tastes okay. Might taste better if they wouldn 't burn them to a crisp.Food in the southern states is so much better than the northern states.Just up here for work. Finding good food is hard.
The place looks old and run down inside, the carpet looks like its never ever been cleaned, we were willing to put that aside and give it a try. For the most part the food was basically good The only thing that made it a bad experience was the charcoal burnt potatoes they put under our skillet and when we tried to address it the waitress tried convincing us that because everyone asks for burnt potatoes that's how they make them ??? their homemade salsa was delicious, sadly we will not return...get it together Michales, ask the customer how they want their potatoes if your style is burnt!
