The vendors are very friendly and there's really every type of food available! The atmosphere is very safe and easy for the foodies to do their reviews , navigate and enjoy the event
Love the food truck rodeos! We go early as to avoid some lines. Music, good food and drinks if you please! I will say at this one there were MANY taco trucks! Is this a bad thing, not really. I myself had Macarollin though and it was yummy! Looks heavy but really is not. I e had cookie coma for dessert and a perfect evening.
Food truck rodeos are BACK! Last night was the first rodeo in 21 months, and despite the threat of rain and subsequent periodic downpours, it was packed! There were around 20 different trucks, plus live music, and lots of good vibes. This was the first big crowd event I have attended since covid. The Public Market was set up with security to check IDs for those that wanted to drink, and to answer questions. There was some fencing to keep those eating and drinking cordoned off from the pass through car traffic. People were on the honor system about their vaccine status, as no one was wearing masks...not even the food vendors (as far as I could see). At first, seeing so many people in lines, and seeing people walk through the crowds with plates of uncovered food, plus seeing people crowded together at the few picnic tables that were placed throughout, felt very weird. But all the folks in my group (there were 7 of us) are fully vaccinated, and we figured this is about as good as it will get if we want to participate in the best that summer has to offer! So, first to do was a tour through the market to see everything that was available. We had arrived around 6:30 pm and all of the lines were LONG...Pre covid long. Trucks like Rob 's Kabobs and Roll 'n Deep had lines that were multiple trucks in length, and it was even hard to find the end. I was pleasantly surprised to see that my two faves, Neno 's and Effortlessly Healthy, were in attendance. There were also numerous dessert options from Kona Shaved Ice to Duke 's Donuts, Dainty Donuts and Sweet Sammie Jane 's which was slinging strawberry shortcake beignets (kill me now) plus their regular assortment of macarons. There were trucks doing pizza, wraps, garbage plates....Macarollin was there, Roc City Sammich was there, and of course numerous beer trucks. We missed Marty 's Meats and Petit Poutine (who were already booked for other events), but in general, it really felt like you could get just about anything you wanted. The line we picked was for Neno 's. It was long, but not ridiculous. We ordered their 'Tres Tacos ' three veggie tacos piled with Mexican rice, cactus salad, salsa verde, cabbage and radish slices on gluten free corn torillas, for $11; their 'Tres Tostados ' same toppings but on a slightly thicker tostada, also $11; and a 'Burri Nenos ' carnitas burrito, $12. All of it was excellent! And for those of you with dietary issues, most of the trucks had notations about how they could accommodate allergies, such as Neno 's and Effortlessly Healthy prominently displayed their meat free, dairy free and gluten free options. A quick internet search shows that the Public Market is planning three more rodeos this year, one in July, one in Aug and one in Sept, all on the last Wed of the month. My advice to you is to get there early if you can that 's the best way to beat the lines and guarantee you can get what you want to eat; alternatively you can get there after 7:30 pm and take your chances with what is left. And bring a chair with you! Lots of attendees even had their own tables, which was good since the number of picnic tables are limited. We are really looking forward to the next one: maybe it won 't rain and we 'll stay a little longer to enjoy the music!
This event was so much fun! There are so many delicious food trucks to try! I had the gobbler grilled cheese from the melt food truck and it was amazing. I also had some Italian ice from Rita's and a comawich from the cookie coma truck- both delicious! I was glad that we brought our own chairs and had somewhere to sit in between getting food.
I had an amazing time frolicking around this place for hours! So many choices to choose from! So much variety all gathered in to one spot is what really makes this festival amazing. New and exciting foods to explore fallowed by some amazing beverages of all sorts. The place is packed and the lines fill up fast so I would recommend going early rather than later. Parking is also minimal. I ended up parking across the street and walking over. Many people were on side streets around the area as well. Most people were very friendly so it caused a very relax atmosphere even though it was pretty crowded. I'm not sure if you're allowed to bring animals or not. A few people had dogs but not sure if they were service animals. Most food trucks were priced pretty well for the portion size you received, a few were a little iffy. I cant wait for next year!
