My husband ordered the fish fry, which was overcooked. He ended up having to remove the coating and only enjoyed the fish inside. The French fries were the standout dish. My chicken pasta with cream sauce lacked flavor. The portions were overly generous, which made it hard to enjoy the meal. Additionally, the bartender struggled to make a basic drink. Overall, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
We had made reservations for a Friday night during the fringe festival and decided to eat at this restaurant. The food and drinks were good, however, there was only one server working and he was extremely busy. Despite his best efforts to juggle the bar and 11 tables, the service was slow. Unfortunately, we waited so long that we only had time to eat our appetizers and had to cancel our main dishes. It was clear that there was a major oversight in staffing for the evening.
Unfortunately, this restaurant has closed. We hope that someone else will be able to open a successful restaurant at this location in the future.
This restaurant will not last! Great location but unless they up their game in regard to liquor drinks and creative food options they will go down. The front threshold had large carpenter ants making a home, dead ivy on the front wall. The once lovely water feature was fishless and surrounded by a rapidly growing weed garden. They were out of a very common liquor and could not make a proper Manhattan. The waiter was new and we allowed for that, but he couldn't remember his first name if he had to. Everything we ordered got mixed up, we stated no lemon in the drinks, they came with lemon 2x. We said no onion on the salad, guess what? Yup, came with onion. We ordered 1/2 salads and got charged for full salads. 4 folks had a less than wonderful meal and we left feeling sad for what was once a great restaurant and like we had to fight for everything we ordered. The manager made the bill correct, but it was still a large disappointment.
Tavern on Gibbs was a disappointment. The environment is old and tired and needs a complete update. The food was fine. My husband had the fish rog and it was boiled over. So he peeled off the coating and ate the fish inside that was good. The French Pommes were very good. I had chickens with a cream sauce on pasta that needed a little more taste. Our main problem with food was that there was much too much. That sounds like a strange complaint, but the crowd on the plates was very inconspicuous. The parts were enormous. And finally, the bartender could not make a very simple basic drink. We're not going back.
