First of all, it is well worth visiting the pretty town of Haslach in the Mühlviertel of Upper Austria, an important fabric centre with an annual textile fair in the summer. There are several nice places to eat on the picturesque town square. We arrived just after the official lunch period (which finishes at 1:30) but could still take advantage of the very reasonably priced three-course "Menü" (€8); the expression "cheap eats" does not, however, do justice to the cuisine. There is indoor seating, but in the summer almost everyone will enjoy the "Gastgarten" a raised platform in front of the restaurant. Good service, too: Herr and Frau Schneider were unfailingly helpful.
We were on the road as a motorcycle group with 8 people and discovered the specialty while passing through. we were greeted extremely friendly and attentive to the Friday buffet at a buffet price of € 7.90. there were plenty and varied selections from carving to cleaning routine to tortellini and church baskets with supplements of noodles, rice, kartoffels and salatable. the suppe was unfortunately already out, but for the conclusion the sachertorte was served with a stroke nicely portioned. the local is lovingly furnished and the gastronomic garden at the main square is nice to stay. the service was or is extremely friendly and humorous. simply recommend and return a local. we spent an enjoyable lunch break there.
