The family that run it are absolutely charming and treat us as part of the family. There is a more formal restaurant on the top...level and then a beach club below where you can rent sun loungers on the rocks and swim in the sea. It's a fantastic place to paddle board but they don't rent them, so you need to bring your own. The views over the bay, the town of Menton and the stunning mountain backdrop are just fabulous. There is also a beach restaurant with a simpler menu to the main restaurant upstairs. It's €16 for a sun lounger and such a beautiful place to spend a day by the water. Fresh fish is the star here with beautiful Gambas, Grilled Tuna, Sole etc. The Octopus Carpaccio and Grilled Mussels are especially good starters. Note, this is not a trendy restaurant. If you are looking Japanese fusion cuisine and a DJ, you will be very disappointed. This is the French Riviera of my childhood with perhaps a slightly faded charm, but in a good way! Places like this that don't change are very rare and vitally important. Highly recommend.
The yellow sun umbrellas of the restaurant on a cliff are inviting to see from far away. After a day on the beach I only needed coffee with ice. the promenade le corbusier begins near and this is one of the last places...for refreshments before the buse beach.
Beautiful place, inviting things, good eating and atmosphere. ideal place for a romantic dinner. if you can book a table on the front side.
It was spontaneous choice to dinate at this place. I chose this place in the hope that it is more for local, therefore should always provide better quality than just a tourist place. but it has not fulfilled my expectations regarding meal and service. it was okay, but far away from perfect. the position next to the view is amazing.
One of our favourite haunts whether to stay for the day on the wonderful promontory equipped with sun beds, bar service and the most wonderful view and swimming/snorkelling opportunities; to dine in the evening in the traditional good quality restaurant overlooking the view of...Menton and the Italian coastline or to sit on the terrace overlooking the sea, to enjoy a leisurely, delicious lunch, freshly prepared to order. A wide, interesting menu to suit all tastes and preferences, L’Hippocampe always ticks all the boxes and meets all our requirements. Highly recommended. The bonus is that, in an area where parking spaces are at a premium, L’Hippocampe offers private parking.
