Das Kaffeehaus - Rostock

Nice place. Siiting in the spring sunshine watching the world go by, with my first decent cup of coffee in Rostock, was indeed a great pleasure. The selection of dessert cakes was not to be resisted. I shared the strawberry quark one with my friend...who chose a beer. The coffee creme was smooth with good depth. Water was served with coffee. The 2 staff members we encounted were both friendly and efficient and were open to responding to our questions (in English)

As the waitress seated us she said I was not allowed to breastfeed my baby here. When asked why. She said that many customers don't appreciate seeing breastfeeding in Das Kaffeehaus so it is not allowed. She told us we could go across the street...where there was a special private feeding room. Instead, we went for coffee and cake across the street at Meyerbeer which welcomed us kindly and has always been ok with my baby getting fed too.

We chanced upon this coffee shop after a boat trip from Warnemunde to Rostock, and are very glad that we did! The boat trip was a little chilly and we needed something to warm us up as well as revive us. The display of cakes...was vast and most impressive. The waitress spoke little English and our German was not much better, so the ordering process was conducted mainly in sign language. I ordered a piece of sacher torte and my husband ordered what appeared to be coffee cake, but when he tasted it, it was more of a chocolate and hazelnut torte. He was far from disappointed, stating that it was probably the best cake that he had ever had! We ordered a black coffee for my husband and a hot chocolate for me. When the beverages arrived I was very pleasantly surprised at the way that the hot chocolate was presented. The cup contained scalded milk with a small jug of liquid chocolate to be poured in according to personal taste. It was delicious! I don’t think that I have ever tasted better. Although the waitress was not able to converse much with us, never the less she was very attentive and pleasant. The toilets in the coffee shop were immaculate, which is always good news. We were very pleased with the whole experience and if we are ever in Germany again we will look out for this chain of coffee shops in the sure knowledge of high standards.

Bester Kuchen im Kaffeehaus bei schneller , freundlicher Bedienung, Eis sehr gut. Der Freisitz ist nur zu empfehlen um das leben zu geniessen. Der Kuchen muss gekostet werden alles Spitze.
