The menu offered an original selection of dishes, many of which were based on produce from the owners' farm. I opted for "Ballontine of Pigeon" with prune and black sausage All of the wine is produced from the owners' vineyard and went well with the food. The following night I opted for a duck starter, followed by suckling pig, which was melt in the mouth delicious. A truly wonderful restaurant.
I have been dining & staying here for over 10 years and its always been great. The overnight package with dinner & breakfast is a bargain and saves the taxi home. Menu changes fairly regularly with the exception of a couple of famous deserts.
A local winery recommended it to us and we were not disappointed. The setting was beautiful in the bush away from the road. The food and wine was excellent. They grow and bottle their own wine as well as raise the pigs that end up on the menu . I would highly recommend Shakey Tables if you are looking to experience great food, wine and service.
We ate here on consecutive nights as we were staying at the Hunter Country Lodge on a midweek, two night package. The welcome and service throughout both evenings was excellent.Night 1Sage & Onion Dumpling w/cauliflower pureePork Belly w/braised octopusApple & Chestnut stuffed suckling pigChar Grilled Waygu Steak w/parsnipCrushed & roasted baby potatoesSteamed seasonal vegetablesOrange Marmalade puddingNight 2Duck Confit x 2 Suckling PigSeafood Bouilebaise Crushed potatoesseasonal vegetablesThe food on each evening was excellent, well presented and delicious, as dinner was included in our accommodation package we were given a free run at the menu on the first evening - no restrictions - this encouraged us to book a table for the second night so we could enjoy a bottle of wine without having to worry about driving or taxis. The view across the grounds must be amazing in the summer but was still atmospheric on this early spring evening.Breakfast is also served in the restaurant but as we were the only ones staying overnight on the first evening we were treated to individually cooked omllettes for breakfast on the first morning.Highly recommended.
We are unable to use our gift voucher because they have sold out and the new owners do not want to know. Have contacted the ACCC and by law the new owners are obliged to accept our voucher.
