The toast was perfectly buttered, the sausages were superb, the bacon was tasty, and all the other ingredients were cooked with care. Everything was delicious, and we were so impressed that we even asked to speak to the chef to convey our compliments. Despite a rude interruption from a colleague, we had the pleasure of meeting Kerry, who was lovely and did a fantastic job cooking our breakfast. She is a talented cook and we had a great experience dining at this restaurant.
I must admit it's been quite a while since we have been to Sainsbury's cafe in Rugby. We wanted a reasonably priced meal so decided to try here. Well so wished we hadn't bothered. There was only a choice of 4 meals, fish chips, sausage mash, ham, egg chips or jacket potato. The lady serving said they were short staffed. We went for ham, egg chips with bread butter. When it arrived the ham was obviously from a packet (2 slices), the 2 fried eggs were hard and well chips are chips, ok. It wasn't bread butter but bread margarine. Each meal was £6.60, not worth the money. We were very disappointed. The place always used to be busy but today was nearly empty. Would not recommend
Definitely going down hill No coffee machine for weeks now, 2hrs to closing, no food in chiller, one choice for kids drinks, not enough staff on front counter leading to long wait, the one member of staff taking orders, toasting food, making drinks, on a previous visit the same member of staff, telling people half hour wait for food, stopped taking orders, café was virtually empty and our order was within 15min, they just wanted to clean up early and close
I’ve been going to this cafe for a long time with family and friends. It was an absolute god send of a place to go and have a coffee and food whilst my children were in explore learning, however since COVID, the opening times are too short and I find I’m unable to use the cafe for that purpose anymore as it’s shut at the critical time that id need it to quickly feed my kids after their after school clubs (some kids in the area don’t finish school until 6pm and the cafe shuts at 5pm now) or to wait for my children during their session. This is a big shame. It’s also never quite been the same since they put up a screening on the balcony windows above the store. I’m guessing they didn’t want people shopping overlooked by people eating or something but it makes the atmosphere feel a little more crammed in and awkward. Not as pleasant as it once was albeit I’m sure I’ve found fault before. There are a choice of seating types. I tend to go for the softer, lower down seating option if just having a coffee or similar, but use the normal tables seats if having a meal. There are plenty of seats available but sometimes you do need to ask for the tables to be cleaned. There is room to put your trolley, nearby toilets, stairs and a lift which are good points. The teacakes are really nice so I recommend those! Other food is ok. I have sent some food back, but equally I’ve had some lovely food. It’s a bit hit and miss but it is convenient for those of us in the area who want food but find ourselves in a position where the area lacks options of places to eat with children. Staff are generally friendly. A bit slow but you don’t mind so much when they are nice. They often run out of food and tend to keep a list by the till of what they don’t have left which is a real shame and not so great if you have a fussy child who only wants a certain thing that they don’t have. But there are many options available so defo a third world issue. The food quality is lesser than it used to be. Not quite sure what’s happened there but we had found the food to be what we would describe as from the ‘budget’ section. Not that it was ever 5* quality, but we have noticed a decline in quality and availability of cooked food. Coffees, etc are average. Not quite a costa but not a horrific drink either. Perfectly acceptable. You will obviously find the food cheaper to buy in the shop itself than in the cafe. Overall it’s a convenient cafe which I would use again. However, there has been a decline and the opening hours being shorter has had a significant impact on parents and children who use Explore Learning being able to use it. Would be great if it could stay open later again for that purpose. I didn’t even mind the fact they started clearing up around us whilst we drank our coffee. Even keeping open a small section for coffee for that purpose would be useful. It was just nice to be able to go in, feed the kids, chuck them into Explore and then sit back in the cafe with a coffee and cake... or cheesy chips!
We carried out a post Christmas shop and decided to have lunch in the Cafe. There was no sandwiches or Pannines as delivery was not due unit next day. My wife ordered the turkey baguette and I a sausage sandwich as I was told vould not have a sausage in a baguette? When the two dishes finally arrived the turkey was the thin sandwich turkey and the sausages small, thin and tasteless. So disappointed.
