It was prime grade strip expertly seared to medium rare plus as I requested, and well seasoned with a balanced blend of salt, pepper, and perhaps some garlic salt. Sides of mashed and al a carte asparagus were luxurious and fresh. The resturant was almost empty on a Friday Night, which was odd, since the “old school” decor consisting of plush deep seated high back leather arm chairs, wood paneled room with opulent crown molding and art work beautifully complements the equally opulent fully stocked bar on other side of foyer.
Let's start with the environment, it is very outdated and may scare you off; however, power through and order food because it is phenomenal. I ordered a Manhattan steak and the Tomahawk steak. Both were cooked to perfection, so juicy and nice render. I also order the spicy garlic shrimp, keep in mind you only get 6-7 shrimp and two Texas toasts, but it was very good. I would HIGHLY recommend this place and it would be a shame if people did not try it solely on the way it looks.
The dining room opens at 6 be advised. We are in the bar bc we were early. The food was amazing! Some of the best excellently made steak ever. Definitely coming back for dinner dining room again!!
This is a dive bar that serves steaks but is out of half of their menu. Not only was the bar, seating and restaurant filthy, but they play tacky dated music that seems to match the last remodel of the place. I will never return and would strongly encourage people to steer clear of this place if they expect great food and a nice dining experience!
Had a wonderful evening. Needed a late dinner to accommodate someone flying into SAN that evening. So picked the place b/c they had late dinner reservations. Didn't realize that on Friday and Saturday nights Kevin McCully sings and plays the piano in the bar part of the restaurant next to the dining room and his pleasant rendition of 80s songs delightfully drifts into the dining room. It was delightful. He starts at 8:30pm. We will be back if only for him...BUT I had a steak that was prepared to perfection (a rarity now-a-days). The dining room had an old world charm which we also liked and the service was excellent. It wasn't the cheapest steak dinner I could have had in San Diego, but it was a fantastic meal. We will be back.
