The food was great. The wine was great and we were there with my elderly parents and mother-in-law, and I was easy for them too. I hate to say how great it was cause. I don't want it to be crowded when I want to go back, but I have the rest of the year tourist can take the summer.
We went on a recommendation from a friend. I can 't believe we didn 't know this place was here! This was one of the best dining experiences we 've had in La Jolla. We were seated promptly and the service was friendly and attentive. There were menu items we 've not seen in any other Italian restaurant in any city we 've visited and they were the stars of the evening (vitello tonnato and the frittura mista di pesce). Because I wanted to try these two antipasti, we kept our entree choices on the lights side I chose a pasta dish from the vegan menu and my wife had the ravioli). We were both super impressed with how simply delicious they were. The nice part was that the dishes felt light and fresh and I have to say also that the servings were generous. I say light because when we go to other Italian places, the food feels so dense and we drag ourselves out onto the street afterward. We almost skipped dessert to watch our weight , but we shared the tiramisu. My wife said it was the best she 'd ever had. It was exceptional. We will definitely return, hopefully trying out their brunch menu.
We had great service by our waitress others that were helping out. All our food choices were delicious. I had the troffie with pesto it tasted just like my Nonni's.
My brother was visiting from Colorado and I wanted him to experience some excellent Italian food and the first place that popped into my head was Piazza 1909. Our time there and our dinner could not have been better. I had the Bistecca Toscana al Tartufo. It was amazing, The Black Truffle sauce was over the top in flavor. I told my brother to go with the Branzino as it is one of my favorites here. He did and he is still talking about. All in all it was a perfect time and dinner. Will be going back again real soon. This is a must stop if you are visiting the San Diego area. I am fortunate to live here so I am to go often.
