Wow! It's in the cut, but the food was AMAZING!!!! I can easily say that this is the most authentic Thai/Laotian food I've had in a long time.
We were really excited to try this restaurant because we love Lao cuisine! We requested a spice level of 4 out of 5 and also opted for their spiciest sauce, but we found both to be quite mild. We also ordered some of their special dishes, but they tasted more Americanized than we expected. Overall, you might want to give it a try for yourself, as everyone's tastes are different!
If you're in search of authentic Lao cuisine, this is the place to go! Everything we tried was delicious, and it felt like we sampled nearly the entire menu. As a big fan of Lao food, I always seek out a Lao restaurant when I travel. I recommend ordering takeout unless the weather is cooler, as the inside can get unbearably hot and I don't think they have air conditioning. Luckily, I was able to avoid the super spicy dishes and let the rest of my family enjoy those. We ordered a wide variety of dishes, but some of my favorites included the Nam Khao, Seen Lod, sausages, lemongrass fried chicken, and pork laab. Each dish was fresh and bursting with flavor. The service was impressively quick, even with our group of 11, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant is located in a small retail area, but parking doesn't seem to be a problem. I highly recommend checking out So Saap. Prices are about average for a Lao restaurant. Don’t forget to check out my photos of the amazing dishes they serve!
Wow, where do I start? I came here based on a recommendation, and I can't express how thrilled I was to experience it for myself. The flavors were genuinely authentic, and the dishes are made fresh to order. The fried fish with fresh herbs and noodles was fantastic, although they unfortunately ran out of pineapple sauce (but that was no big deal). The portion of drunken noodles was generous, perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and packed with fresh vegetables and beef. I highly recommend trying the dark papaya salad; it had an incredible and unique flavor. Lastly, the Lao Famous plate had a variety of treats, but in my opinion, the Lao sausage was the standout. Overall, it was understandably busy, but the service was very friendly, and you could tell that the food was made with care. I can't wait to return when I'm in San Diego to try more of their offerings. If you have the chance, definitely give it a try!
