I concur with Dean C 's updated review! We ordered the chicken and beers combo, 6 piece honey cream wings and the spicy rice cake/Korean combo tempura. The rest we mooched off our friends. Just a FYI: for the chicken and beers order, the half/half wings is the crispy fried chicken and the yangyeom chicken. No choosing from the other flavors. Thus, the extra 6 piece order of honey cream. Wings, ranked in order: 1. Honey cream: Really enjoyed the light mayo ey sauce on the side so it didn 't lose its crunch. The coating also had a powdered flavoring that added that touch of umami. 4/5 2. Yangyeom: Spicy, juicy and crunchy. These were delicious too (heated up horribly in the air fryer the next day . 4/5 3. Crispy fried: Ok, for sure it was crispy. I took one bite and said, it 's like Popeyes . Yeah...I expect more than Popeyes. 3/5 4. Jalapeño Mayo: Sounded interesting, but not much sauce drizzled atop. It didn 't have any distinctive flavor that stood out like the others. 2/5 Other items: Cheese balls: They had the same umami powder that the honey cream wings had I think? These were winners! Make sure you eat them hot so they 're nice and gooey. Fried seaweed rolls: Addicting! Be careful with the hot sauce. It 's no joke. Korean combo tempura: The potstickers and fried squid were unremarkable. Surprised the ball was an egg at first, the coating fell off while slicing it in half. It was aite. The patty cake was legit though! If I could just order that, I would. Spicy rice cake: Chewy and spicy. Meh. (Extremely spicy and gummy the next day...not very edible. We initially didn 't receive the chicken portion of our chicken and beers order (12 pieces of wings and had to wait a bit more for that since everything seems made to order. To go or fast casual outdoor seating only at this time. 3.5 stars overall.
I love chicken here food and service Price clean 5star Also dduck bbokki good too I will come again
Disappointing in both taste and customer service. The Yangyeom chicken includes almond shavings on top, nowhere does it say this on their online order system. This is a big problem as my sister is allergic to almonds and can't just pick them off. I called to let them know this and they did replace the chicken, however, they also told me that it wasn't their fault and that I should have told them about any allergies. Allergen lists are a necessity and this interaction was incredibly rude. Doesn't even show almonds on their menu picture. Soy garlic 3.5/5 tasty but a little too soy sauce heavy Yangyeom 3/5 too much sauce and too sweet Cheese balls 4/5 pretty good! i've been wanting to try these and haven't found a place in the bay area so i'm glad i could finally try it out
6/26/21 Happiness. This is what it's about when you finally find that something you've been hunting for years. The best Korean Fried Chicken restaurant in NorCal. This is it. Disclaimer: You all who like Bonchon, click away. You're not my audience. We have nothing in common. I see a blue sky it's probably green to you. Maybe yellow. Now, for those that know, yes nothing's gonna be better than the chicken in K Town, in SoCal. Well... except that random Korean pizza chicken place in Arcadia. My secret. The best Korean Fried Chicken in America. But for those who are not willing to drive 450mi for chicken, this is it. This is happiness, the happiness that brings smiles to your soul. 1. Fried Seaweed Roll (10pc $9.95: Well ddaaayum... deep fried glass noodles in seaweed and battered up you say? You just gotta try. 10/10 2. Cheese Ball (6pc $10.50: Some kind of cheese inside mochi, deep fried, then dusted in Korean magic powder. Something ain't right .... what's this... my mouth hurts....... am I SMMIIIILLIIIING???? 10/10 3. Soy Garlic Chicken $11.45: Interesting. So, this is closer to American buffalo wings than Korean fried chicken to me, cause if there is a batter it's really thin. Seem almost as if it was fried naked. Anyway, it's certainly crisp, and packed with flavor. Slightly sweet, definitely richly soy saucey. Chicken itself is reasonably juicy no, not juicy like my gf's brined and fried perfection, but 70% there? 8/10 4. Yangnyeom Chicken $11.45: Alright, so here we are. The epic ness. The thing is, it's REALLY hard to tell here. This was a #DoorDash order, and you know how Korean chicken is it's smothered in sauce. So, really, there's no way that any fried chicken dipped in sauce will still be crispy after any length of driving. Well, unless they paid for Captain Crunch's secret recipe cause that sht will still be crispy even if we tried some found buried with the Titanic. But I can tell you the batter is really thick, really bubbly, all signs of EPIC batter. The sauce was also classic Korean semi spicy, sweet, and perfect with fried chicken. Personally, I could use less of it though, so I can taste some of the amazingly fried batter. Chicken is nicely thick and juicy (but again 70% of my gf's juiciness. Anyway.... I'm gonna withhold a rating for this one just cuz I don't think it would be fair. But I have a feeling this would be one of the best ever. This is it folks. This is what you've all been waiting for. 5/5 #bestever #koreanfriedchicken #kfc #friedchicken #sanjose
